In the old forum (sigh...), I think it was Mulletperm who lived in WA and was into the heavier stuff. He made a list of bands playing Soundwave with some recommendations of the good ones.

If you're reading, did you mention Alter Bridge? Coz I can probably stop listening to music now, as it's all downhill from here. They are fudging brilliant. When I get home, I'll put a youtube video up of Blackbird. On Wiki it mentions the guitar solo was rated the greatest of all time*, it's a big claim but you know what, it ain't that silly.

* note it was an online poll, so pinch of salt and all that, but it's still very good.

Was watching some Bon Iver tonight, the video with the little kid wandering round is very cool.

Am digging Horse Feathers 'Thistled Spring' at the moment

More Soulbalm (pimped on the old board but worth a redux)

I already had a download of their album, but got my sis to buy me the original for Christmas, best present I got, by a mile.

Can't wait to hear their next effort.

new Rodrigo Y Gariela album is interesting

recorded in Cuba, is their ussually Spanish guitar combined with a bit of a Bosa Nova (or the Cuban equivalent i guess!) - not sure if i like it or not yet.

sound alot like every song should used in an 80s cop film

Sebastian Bach (ex-Skid Row) with guitar prodigy Nick Sterling. His solo stuff kicks ass. As some say, more Skid Row than Skid Row themselves.

Isn't Alter Bridge basically Creed with Myles Kennedy on vocals? Only heard him with Slash, where he sounds good on the newer stuff and not so much re-doing the old classics.

Yep. Amazing that Creed can be so brick, then just change the singer and it's brilliant stuff. Myles Kennedy is a little bit of a legend though, so if anyone could do it. Amazing guitarist and drummer in the group, all hiding behind that taco Scott Stapp.

Myles Kennedy has a great voice, and Alter Bridge have done some pretty good stuff, but they don't blow me away. I thought the stuff Myles did on Slash's solo album was better.

Discovered this guy recently. Very good, very chilled out.

Takes me back to the late 80's, Skid Row was the first band I saw live, supporting Motley Crew on the Dr Feelgood tour in 89 I think. Was addicted to gigs straight after that, have probably been to 300 since seeing probably 1000 or so bands (mostly at festivals in recent years but I used to go to a gig nearly every week from 18-22).

Anyone listened to Kasabian's most recent album? If so is it worth buying?

I like a song by Swedish House Mafia (think it's called 'name') even though I can't stand that genre of music normally.

Would've loved to have seen Skid Row back in the day, seen Bach with his band a few times in recent years, he's always good value.

Some ex x-factor contestant is releasing a cover of Seven Nation Army and it's fudging horrendous. Seriously, this sort of thing should be illegal, should be laws protecting artistic integrity or something. :-&

Don't you need the artist's permission before you do a cover? Unless the song is owned by a record company, in which case we know what the answer will be.

The worst is tons of macarons will buy this and never care to listen to the original.

yeah, but Jack White is the same guy who did an entire campaign for coca cola, during the height of the death squads debacle. Im not sure hes that bothered, the Stripes are long gone anyway!

The pixies allowing a cover on that all inclusive holiday advert is more worrying. the smiths on that john lewis ad. and all the while, people keep stealing their music... i dont blame them in the slightest for allowing some clam to cover old songs in exchange for the royalties of macarons.

as for x factor, just dont even bother to mention them, because they wont get the message until nobody talks about them anymore. i feel sick even having to think about that hideous excuse for music and the grotesque deformities on absurdly bad termed contracts in exchange for being on tv, the worst of all mediums.

fudge them, and fudge anyone who brings them up as a serious topic.

that is all.

the new Van Etten album is out next week, and its going to be very arousing
