Re: Kaboul - deserves some recognition

maybe, but they are likely scared of him, he's been a beast against them on more than one occasion

Re: Kaboul - deserves some recognition

Would be a terrible idea to throw him in at the deep end, completely lacking in match fitness and sharpness, in such a big game.

He said 2-3 weeks (maybe), so if he plays Lyon (away game) and West ham I reckon he should be OK to play Arsenal? I know it's optimistic, obviously if he's not completely fit to play West Ham I wouldn't play him against Arsenal either...

Absolutely. We can't just expect him to be the gonads as soon as he comes back like Ledley King.

Re: Kaboul - deserves some recognition

Yeah I'd rather we eased him back in. Plus I don't want to see comments like:

Kaboul 3 - looked rusty

Re: Kaboul - deserves some recognition

wow these guys are something else aren't they. just 2-3 weeks training after a long lay off to prep for a prem league match.

Re: Kaboul - deserves some recognition

It's going to take a bit longer than that I suspect:

Andre: “Younes will train on with the team for one session next week which is good”

Re: Kaboul - deserves some recognition

Great to hear he's back in training, could be a massive boost to get him fully fit for the last part of the season, when the other defenders are tireing from a long season.

Arsenal will probably be too soon, though.

He'll surely have been training very hard in the gym and the pool for a few months now. Also training outside, running / jumping / turning / ball work etc with the physios and conditioning coaches before joining full training with the first team squad.

Gym work (and, by extension, pool work) would have been going on for a while now. Most modern injured players spend an inordinate amount of time maintaining their physical fitness, in order to maintain a level of fitness that allows them to quickly return to action once their injury has healed.

In fact, I'd be rather dismayed if the club didn't instruct Kaboul to do just that the day after he got injured.

So yes, ball work/jumping/turning exercises will be required, but beyond that, there's no reason to think he won't be near full readiness to rejoin first-team action by the end of March.

Given AVB's reluctance to quickly insert players not used to his system into the starting eleven, however, I don't expect to see him playing regularly for us until mid-April, if our defensive injury situation remains as it currently is.

Re: Kaboul - deserves some recognition

Great news to hear he is back, can not wait to see him and Jan as our CB's

Return of Younes could be vital in many ways

It is pretty clear we will need one of our strikers to step up and one of our other players to take it on. Lennon is the obvious choice to take it on, providing we can keep him fit, but I just wonder if having a fit Younes Kaboul for the run-in might help us grind out the results we need.
IMHO it is between us and Chelski for the 3rd or 4th spot, I think the goons will make it. I still believe we can pip Chelski. But the return of Younes could be absolutely massive, as IF AVB wants to, it could allow him to play Vertonghen and BAE on the same side of the pitch with Younes slotting in alongside Daws or Caulker.

Still 3rd, still in the EL Q/F.

Let's keep positive!

COYS!

p.s. imagine if we hear in the next couple of days that Bale only has a sprain 2-3 weeks. It will be like a new signing LOL!

Re: Return of Younes could be vital in many ways

It's hard to see where he'll fit in again this season. He's been out for so long he'll be rusty and it'll be a huge risk to throw him back in for any of our upcoming games. Kaboul's technical and physical attributes have never been in doubt, but the criticism people had of Kaboul was his reading of the game. He got far better at it last season which is why he came our best CB, but after a year out injured I'd be surprised if he doesn't make a few mistakes when he comes back in. I remember Ledley saying part of the reason he felt he got so good was because he spent a lot of time watching football, so perhaps it will have done him some good, but most people aren't Ledley and I'd be amazed if Kaboul's game doesn't suffer for the injury, at least this season anyway.
