O/T Capello Resigns / New England Manager Speculation Thread

Another downside if Redknapp takes the England job is that he can't wheel and deal. Look at the improvements he has made to our squad in just over 3 years.

Pardew probably has a decent chance of becoming England manager at some point in his career. From what I've heard about him, he's a bit of a flash harry, but I've grown to like him.

England have already fudged up their Euro's chances with their ridiculous travel arrangements.
They are based at Krakow. They have to travel 930 miles to Donetsk for first game, the 930 miles back to the hotel.
4 days later they have to play a game in Kiev 540 miles away and 540 back.
And for their final game its another 930 mile journey to Donetsk.

All scaremongering from the press.... chances are they would have to fly anyway as the distances wouldn't get much better even if they were based in the Ukraine. An extra half hour on a plane is hardly a major inconvenience, particularly when they were deliberately trying to avoid the isolation that caused so many problems in South Africa.

Precisely - they have to get on the coach and drive to the airport and hang around and get on the plane and then... it is another half hour on the flight which is nowt really compared to all the fannying around at either end

The countries are just wiiiiiiiiide man

New Harry interview essentially implying he would manage at the EUROs but then would either stay at Spurs or become England manager full-time.

Anyone noticed that Harry keeps on thinking that we are playing Manure after Stevenage - AND NOT ARSENAL? Someone needs to tell Harry its Arsenal that is our next premier league game.

A case of the BAE's.

Harry part time for the euros sounds a good deal for everyone, but won't he have to pick all our england internationals he feels will be part of plans next season, or risk losing their faith? King, Daws, Walker, Parker, Lennon, Defoe. Plus he knows the players and they know what he wants from them.

Harry - Part-time role possible

Spurs boss knows he is the popular choice to be England coach

Last Updated: February 16, 2012 11:46am

Harry Redknapp is aware he is the 'popular choice' to be the next England coach and believes the job could be done on a part-time basis at Euro 2012.

Fabio Capello's resignation last week has left the Football Association searching for a new boss to lead England into the summer's European Championship in Poland and Ukraine.

Under 21 coach Stuart Pearce has been placed in caretaker charge for the friendly against Holland at the end of the month, while Redknapp is the overwhelming favourite to replace Capello.

The Tottenham Hotspur manager appears to have the backing of the fans and media after turning his team into genuine Premier League title contenders this season.

Redknapp is determined to focus on Spurs' push for success in the coming weeks, but has acknowledged his status as the leading candidate to take charge.

Not easy

There have been suggestions he could pick up the England reins at the end of the domestic season and Redknapp believes that could be an option for the FA to consider.

"I'd be a liar if I said I wasn't the popular choice. I know I am, it's been everywhere, in every paper every day."
Harry Redknapp Quotes of the week

"I'd be a liar if I said I wasn't the popular choice," Redknapp told Abu Dhabi Sports. "I know I am, it's been everywhere, in every paper every day.

"But it's not an easy one. I have a good job and I work with good people and I have a good team.

"Just to walk away now, when we're in such a good position, it wouldn't be fair, it wouldn't be fair on Tottenham. I have to really keep focusing on Tottenham.

"This week we have Stevenage in the Cup, then we have Man Utd, then we have Arsenal, then we have Chelsea. We have some fantastic games. It's important time for me with Tottenham."

Redknapp does believe it may be possible for a club manager to take charge for the European Championship, but not in the long-term.

He added: "Part-time? In the short term I think it's possible for the European Championships. But I think in the long term it's not possible to manage a club team and manage a national team.

"It's difficult enough to manage in the Premier League without having to worry about managing the England team as well. You want to be watching England players play, you want to be watching the opposition.

"I think, whoever they give the job to, could only do the one job. Maybe for the Euros, it's not such a problem but once the Euros are finished and the new season starts in England, the manager has to be a Premier League manager - if it's someone who manages in the Premier League - or the England manager. To do the two jobs, it would be impossible."

No Headlines declaring HARRY HINTS AT SPURS STAY?

Why am I not surprised??

On a side note, I think Arry should scheck the fixture list

If he agrees to the Euros with England coming back to Spurs it will be like watching Spurs vs Europe in the summer (for me :D )

Tottenham ready to rebuff FA in battle to hold on to their manager Harry Redknapp

Harry Redknapp has been told by Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy that he wants him to stay at the club in anticipation of an approach from the Football Association to appoint him as England manager.

Tottenham are prepared to fight to keep Redknapp and will demand substantial compensation should he leave for the national team.

Redknapp has been speaking to Levy “nearly every day” and it has been made clear to him that his chairman wants him to continue the impressive work he is doing at Spurs.

“Daniel wants me to stay I know that,” he said. “We’ve got a job to do here and I’ve not discussed anything with anyone outside of that. Not had a conversation with anyone.”

Spurs paid Portsmouth ?ú5 million in compensation to get Redknapp to White Hart Lane and stood by him through his recent trial. They would expect recompense if Redknapp left at the end of this season, with a year left on his contract.

The FA are in the process of considering other candidates which would strengthen their negotiating position when they do begin the process of appointing the new man. They are in no hurry and, according to sources at the governing body, are keen to avoid disrupting any club’s season if possible.

That does not necessarily mean they must wait until the end of the season to make a move for Redknapp it may be the case that Spurs qualify for the Champions League before the season ends on May 13. But the FA insists there is no urgency to appoint the new manager, with Stuart Pearce taking charge of the friendly with Holland the week after next.

Redknapp has said that, if offered the job, he would make his decision in consultation with his son, Jamie. “I speak to Jamie more than anybody,” he said. “I’d speak to him about it for sure, he’s the one I’d stand on more than anyone.”

The availability of the England job is not preventing Tottenham from preparing for next season. Redknapp revealed that the club were trying to sign Eden Hazard from Lille, an ambitious effort in the face of competition from the best clubs in Europe.

“Hazard was a player we’d spoken about a few weeks ago,” said Redknapp in response to Hazard suggesting a move to Spurs was in the offing. “We were talking about the possibility of getting him. He’s definitely on our list.”

Hmmm, first we hold Modric to his contract and now were looking to keep hold of Harry. How dare we, how dare we try and stop the media from getting their way again.

"I'd be talking rubbish if I said people wanted to stay at Tottenham because we play good football," Redknapp said. "If you want to keep the best players, we must find a way of doing a deal that's near to what they can earn elsewhere.

"We're not in a position to pay ?ú40million or ?ú200k-a-week, we don't do it. The chairman Daniel Levy doesn't run it like that and rightly so."

But.... can you break our wage structure to pay for Ade?

i really want levy to make redknapp stay for the extra year, if he does go i want england to fail, and fail badly. yes, im bitter

Harry Redknapp admits that he would not take on the England job if his son and closest confidant Jamie did not approve.

Redknapp junior is very close to his father and has already admitted that it is not certain whether he would leave Tottenham for the England post.

The Spurs boss now admits that he would need to speak to his son before accepting any role.

"I speak to Jamie more than anybody," he said.

"I'd speak to him about it for sure - he's one I'd stand on more than anyone."

Redknapp, though, insists he is strong enough to take on the England job and any flack that would come with it.

"It goes with the job," said the 64-year-old.

"There have been some good managers who have all had it. Apart from Terry Venables in Euro '96, everybody else has been slaughtered at times.

"If you lose a couple of games, it is like the world is coming to an end, isn't it? That's what you have to put up with.

"It is getting near the knuckle now, though. I heard the other day during a game on TV some people chanting about some player's wife.

"I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

"But that is what happens now - it is different to how it used to be."
No approach

But he insists that the FA have not yet made any approach to his chairman Daniel Levy or him.

"I have spoken to Daniel and he wants me to stay," Redknapp added.

"I haven't had an approach from anybody. They (the FA) may be thinking along completely different lines to what everyone else is thinking. They might want someone else."

Redknapp also ruled out the possibility of leaving Tottenham this season and underlined his determination to win some silverware, with the club in FA Cup action against Stevenage on Sunday.

"I'd love to win the FA Cup and, until somebody says 'do you want the England job', I've just got to keep Spurs playing well," he said.

"We grew up with the tradition of the FA Cup.

"It was the big day of the year, so it would be lovely to go Wembley with Tottenham."
