I haven't read this entire thread and this may have been said before but this whole thing screams to me that it has all been sorted behind the scenes before hand.
The FA approach Redknapp months ago (possibly before, possibly after the John Terry thing) and tell him, we can't give you the job if your found guilty. Redknapp says I'm not guilty and once this is proven in court I'll take the job. So, the FA set up a meeting with Capello around the time of Redknapps scentencing. The outcome of the case directs how the meeting goes. Harry found guilty 'Fabio we are very sorry, we feel you are the man for this job blah blah' Harry found not guilty then they force Fabio to resign. Baring in mind he wouldn't resign after the world cup as he would lose too much money I feel that some money may have been thrown his way too.

Tottenham director Sir Keith Mills says it is up to Harry Redknapp to decide whether he stays at Spurs if he is offered the England manager's job.
Redknapp is tipped by many to replace Fabio Capello as England boss after the Italian resigned on Wednesday.
"Harry needs to make a decision whether he'd like the job or to stay at Tottenham," Mills told BBC Radio 4.
"I'm sure Harry won't be the only candidate. Whether Harry's approached or not is not a forgone conclusion."

I am sure Levy has planned for this day. Its not like Harry being heavily linked with the job is new, so be it now or the summer I am sure there is something somewhere from Levy that is planned out.
Personally as there is no need for competative England games before the summer due to us already being qualified I can see Harry doing both jobs and leaving us officially in the summer.

Levy's managed the business very well but has a very patchy record of appointing managers. I'm not sure where this faith in him comes from.
Really? You think that Redknapp would, for the first time in his entire life, stop looking out for Harry Redknapp and turn down a job he wants just to keep fans happy because they didn't disagree with him on some decisions? Preposterous.

Would the best managers in club football give up their jobs to manage their national team? I would say in 90% of cases no.
Would Pep give up Barce to manage Spain? Would Jose give up Real for Portugal etc? Its a graveyard for washed up managers, yeh people will say because Harry is 64 its his time but he is still managing at the very top at the moment so why give that up?

Its not brick - its great for us! Harry made it clear that he would leave for the England job and at least now that Capello has gone early, rather than lose Harry in July or Aug mid-transfer window and weeks before the new season, the FA will presumably look to appoint him in say March or April ahead of him taking over in May. It means that Levy just needs to make sure Harry is financially incentivised to get us as high up the league as possible. It also means that Levy has about 3 months to identify the new manager and hopefully appoint the new guy as soon as this season ends, meaning that man has time to prepare for next season
It could also have a big impact on us keeping Modric. Previously, If we had had Chelsea sniffing around him from this May or June then Modric may well have walked given that he would have known that Harry would be off and that there was uncertainty about who would take over. Now, if we can get a top manager lined up then hopefully we can convince Modric and others that the club is going places

Because he is a patriotic Englishman and NOT a Spurs fan. Thats not a criticism of him but its a very different situation to if you or I were Spurs manager and offered the england job. For him, the England job is the pinnacle and bigger than the Spurs job

What has been patchy, Milo? I thought it has been a solid ascend to stability bar Ramos.
Up to Jol it was mostly caretakers and patching up holes.
Jol was a solid choice and was undermined terribly both by players and execs. Could have gone to build from there (two solid 5th place finishes) if it wasn't for key players leaving and only given limited time. You cannot win the PL in 2 years time with a fraction of the Big 4's turnover.
Ramos is the only blip, but that was partly down to Comolli too, in my opinion. Also a language barrier to an extent.
Arry was a very, very safe choice amidst the storm and it played out excellently for us.
I would imagine we can only build from here on, come on - it's not like he'll go for Big Sam or Houllier

he's hardly going to be perfect if you do micro analysis on him and judge his success failure at every curve.
but if you look at the overall picture where we are now is directly related to him at the helm. everything we have done and tried whether it be success or failure has taken us forward. his vision, transfer policy, business acumen and financial nous , his balls of steel in the modric saga, etc et etc etc etc...has been to take this club forward and we have been moving forward.
even our big share of TV and european exposure i put down to the bald guy.
i dont want harry to leave but if he does i have faith that Levy will still make the sort of moves to progress us forward as a club with his next selection as manager.
Hmmm, rather needlessly harsh, and I actually agree with hotspurgirl. Yes Everton have a rich history and are a 'big' club, but he's never managed a team with the expectations or budget that Spurs currently have. It's hard to say for certain that his success would transfer to a different kind of club.
