It was like putting a plaster on a brain haemorrhage, we have been brick for a year that run doubled up with moving back home and the little bounce those three games gave us have made a large contribution to the delusion that we are just going through a little tough spell.

He didn't say it was a storming charge? City and Ajax tried their damned hardest (just as we did) to turn us over in what ended up as two classic ties. City FWIW only didn't go thru because this year happened to be the introduction of a certain technology. Stop be-littling things and rewriting history, 'fell over themselves, to get out our way' ...yeah that was my thoughts on those particular nights. Joker.

How about we've spent 60 years trying to play in that game and last year we did.

It's a step forward we take though.

Liverpool hadn't been turning up in their finals (didn't particularly against us).....then they make the final step.

Experience without doubt helps. You're suggesting we might as not bother, or should be perfect from the get go.

If we were making steps forward I'd be perfectly happy.

Our performances have been trending the wrong way for over a year and our results have been in spite of them.

If you want to move the conversation along, fair enough.

But just to conclude the the point we were discussing , getting to the CL final is a step forward. End of.

I think they're have been many more steps backwards than forward and probably more to come in the (bumpy) season ahead. Any sense of a step back is intolerable to some but Poch had made so many steps consistently forward in his first 4 seasons he'd left himself with only the hardest steps to take ie the final steps. Unfortunately with the current situation, he has never been so far from them final steps, in fact even some of the familiar steps he's taken many times before are gonna be an effort.

He himself, is gonna need to 'want' to take them though as there is some element of re-climbing the mountain here.

Under normal circumstances no manager would be let go on the back of a CL final. But our league form had tanked - I think our last away win had been Fulham in February with a last minute winner? Then you have to add to that the bizarre circumstances whereby a manager effectively threw himself in the shop window days before the biggest game in the club's history.

At that point, it was clear that he was in it for himself. On top of that he picked the wrong team, we were a complete no-show, and his star was already begin to lose its sparkle. I don't think that that level of self-promotion over the good of the team is very enticing for prospect employers.

But the crux of the issue here is that we are brick, and have been so for over half a season. We're currently the worst team in the league, whether you like it or not. Who have we taken points from this year? Villa, Southampton & Palace at home, losing to Saudi Sportswashing Machine, Brighton, Leicester and drawing at home to Watford with a fortunate late goal after a shambolic performance.

Where do people see points coming from if not Brighton and Watford? We were comprehensively outplayed in both those games. The poor form has been going on for ages, but the malaise in morale and hunger can be pin-pointed to the days before the CL final. Did you ever think you'd see Kane ambling around not really caring? Me neither, but here we are. No one gives a brick, and that comes from he top.

I want to see what impact having a proven winner who measures success in trophies in the dugout might do. Currently, we are fudging crap, brick at the back, brick in midfield and playing without a recognised striker up front. Its fudging dogbrick.

But the problem is that this isn't just a downturn in form. The manager has turned into something of a bizarre figure who has precipitated this decline through flirting with leaving over a consistent period of time, and by making poor tactical and managerial decisions.

For about 6 months solid when the press were overhyping him to death, Pochettino would never, ever kill the rumours. Even before the fateful nonsense before the CL final his interviews were ambiguous at best, designed to pique the interest of potential suitors. He could have killed all the rumours and speculation stone dead but he didn't. Why? Because he flat out didn't want to and started believing that he had some sort of Midas touch, despite never actually winning anything with what has probably been one of the best teams over the past 5 years.

What young player has blossomed to the point that they have reached world-class status under Poch's perceived outstanding tutelage? They all look burnt out and in decline to me. Flogged to death by their mid-20's.

"The players invite me because they love me." No, no they don't. No one loves their boss. You respect your boss if they are good, run the team well, give fair remuneration and are doing things that benefit your own personal career. When all that stops, the knives are out and no one gives a flying fudge about the boss. And that is in every line of work ever.

As i have said before i think Jose would win us a trophy ( he has done so everywhere else) and IF we decide on a change he would be the one i would go for. However i think we are getting a bit kneejerk about sacking a manager who has lifted this club so far and at the first sign of trouble we panic like spoilt kids.
