Whoever comes in I think he needs to be given three years full stop. No sackings if the results aren't as expected unless we're really at the foot of the table. Stability is a much overused word on THFC message boards but we need it. And it sends a message (you'd hope) to the players. This guy will be your boss regardless for the next X amount of years so play for him or you're out.
I just don't see that happening. With LVG out of the picture, the remaining candidates are, to me, very 'iffy' indeed. Just from the comments in here you can see there is a huge disparity in opinion over the candidates. I can't imagine us sticking with, say, Poch for that long if we are mid-table or below. He just doesn't have any basis or record or history of success to keep faith in. I have concerns about FDB given the Dutch league and I think the way he's handled things with us in the media is a disgrace. And with Rafa, even with his record (or because of it) he will likely need to produce quickly. If Derby go up, I don't think we'd get McClaren.
I'd have gone with LVG, but with him off the table, I think that changes things a bit and so honestly I'd consider giving Sherwood another year. I don't think we will get Rafa this year (and doubt Levy will like paying the compensation anyway), whereas we may be more able to get him next year. I assume Poch would still be at Soton and 'available' next year too? So, I think Sherwood should at least be in the conversation, and not just because of Sherwood, if you see what I mean. I think there's a lot of considerations and factors that go in to it.
