Next seasons squad

Just basing off 343 which I think RdZ will execute next season. What do you think? 4231? 352? Whatever you choose the current squad isn't optimized, indicative of a loack of a grand plan.
a 3-5-2 would help us hide our lack of true wingers by utilizing the wingbacks to provide width and playing two central strikers.

We don't have 1 viable central striker at the moment, let alone too

3 at the back doesn't really allow you to press high either. Its a low block formation

That’s the main issue with playing a lone CF… unless they are competent at holding the ball up, creating their own chances and being able to get on the end of passes and crosses, then that can be schemed against.

Playing two strikers allows you to pair players who can complement each other, say a target man and a faster option to play off him. I could see a Solanke + Kroupi pairing working this way.

As far as pressing goes, it’s about responsibilities rather than positions. You can press high before falling back into your defensive shell.

We havent played 2 CFs since AVB sold van der Vaart. Its a pretty dead system globally this past 2 decades

If you don't have good wingers why play a system reliant on them?

Play to your strengths, hide your weaknesses and forget what everyone else is doing around you. Following the crowd is not the only route to success.

Assuming we sell: Vicario Romero Dragusin Vuskovic Sarr Devine Solomon Veliz
Assuming we buy Kroupi/Savinho/similar, our squad will be something like this (first team / reserve / fringe)

........................Kinsky
.......................Dubravka
........................Austin

Porro.....VanHecke.... Senesi....Udogie
Spence.....Danso..... VdV....... Robbo
..........Phillips....Byfield...Davies

........Fernandes....Tonali
........Bentancur....Gray

Kudus....Maddison....Kroupi/Savinho
............. Gallagher... Bergvall...... Tel
...............LucaWB....Moore
[Injured Deki....Xavi....Odobert]

........Solanke
........Richie
........Lankshear

Other humanoids to loan or sell: Gunter, Takei, Rowswell, Souza, Abbot, Oluesi, Donely, Yang, Melia, Dorrington, Hall, Irow, Akamrich, Ajayi, Scarlett
What makes you think Senesi will be starting ahead of VDV at the beginning of the season? If you truly believe that then you have not been reading the room.

Looking back at my best hopes and dreams... the back room team have done some great work, successfully selling off the players we didn't fancy as first teamers this year e.g. Vicario Romero Spence Dragusin Vuskovic Phillips Devine Solomon TyThompson Veliz Lankshear and probably Sarr/Berg or whoever and discontinuing Biss/Palhinha and most importantly, not loaning in Timo Werner.

Seems like Savinho is 99.99% here, Marmoush is 95% coming although it wouldn't surprise me if MNC change their mind at the last second and someone else important like Gakpo is a very likely final incoming.

Exceptional window if it happens, just imagine a front 4 made up of Kudus / Maddison / Savinho / Marmoush
Lots of options for them to play in different positions across the front 4, lots of half spaces, false 9s, false teeth, wide players coming inside and vice versa, very tasty.
Hard to say who would play where.

Or how about a front 4 of Deki / Xavi / Solanke / Gakpo, that is also mustard, what depth! Where will we slot them all in?

And don't forget Moore / Gallagher / Odobert / Tel, not bad 3rd depth! And LWB coming through too. This assumes Richie is sold.

Gives us a squad of:

.............................Kinsky
...........................Dubravka
.............................Austin

Porro.........JPVH.............. VdV........ Robbo
Gray*.......Danso........... Senesi....... Udogie
Rowswell..Byfield..Hardy..Davies..Souza

................Fernandes.............Tonali
.................Bentancur............Gray*
...................Bergvall.............Sarr

#10 ................Maddison
..................Xavi.... Gallagher
.......................LucaWB

Right...................................................Left
Kudus..............................................Savinho
Deki...Tel.........................................Gakpo
Odobert ........................................Moore

.....................Marmoush
.....................Solanke
.....................Scarlett

Others to loan or sell: Gunter, Takai, Rowswell, Abbot, Olusesi, Donley, Yang, Melia, Dorrington, Hall, Irow, Akamrich, Ajayi, Scarlett, I feel like a couple have already gone but can't remember who

I think options are the way to go with the likely squad

- Robertson & Maddison for me will play against sit back sides
- Kudus and Savinho out wide provide a lot of ball retention and 1:1 ability
- Gapko - Deki - Kudus as 3 behind striker would be a lot of physicality with Tonali/Fernandes behind.

Be very interesting to see RDZ tactics/mix

Nitpicking but looks like Tye Hall is ahead of Rowsell as he is still involved in first team training and was playing RB in the pre season games.

Maybe a format issue but Tel is gonna be more LW/CF. I think Savinho will be RW more often than LW as well.

Yeah, I forgot about Tye Hall as he is a DM really. Maybe Rowswell had a sore willy or something.
I think Tel Sav Odo Moore Marm Gak Xavi Kudus can all play both sides / several positions, so yeah whatevs :D

I think only Savinho & Kudus are natural on the right tbh.

Isn't Odobert more suited to the right side?
I have to admit I didn't think so initially. Whenever I watched him for France U21 I thought he looked quite lost there but last season he really kicked on in Frank's last few games before his injury. I now feel very comfortable with him being the understudy for Kudus on the right once he returns to fitness.

Savio isn't really a natural on the right and he's best performances have come on the left.

Interview when he joined Emirates Marketing Project

"My favourite position? I really like playing on the left and right, but I can also play in the middle. If I had to choose, I really prefer to play on the right wing. But whatever the coach, the boss decides, I will help the team."

Have you actually watched him play?

He can play across the front line, that doesn't mean he has equal ability in every role (he doesn't).

I posted an interview with him from when he joined City where he said his favoured position is right wing (but happy to play left or through middle) - he must have grown up playing right wing i guess for him to be saying that. Equally after his two years at City he may have reconsidered where he wants to plsy on the pitch
