Next Manager?

With Nuno we should bear in mind where Wolves were before he took over. I don't recall them, certainly not recently, being an established PL team like he has made them. Plus I always thought they gave us a pretty good game and we have been lucky to beat them on occasions. Anyway I am sure most of us would give him a chance if he was appointed. Plus he is a better fit than Gattuso I suspect.

They've become a PL team because Mendes has been feeding them players that would normally be out of their reach.

So which of our players would Nuno be good for or not good for given he either plays 3-4-3 or 3-5-2?

Good:
- Sessesgnon, Regi, Doherty benefit given likely us of wing backs more (assume Aurier leaves)
- perhaps Davies and Tanganga in the wide CB roles?
- CM: PEH and Skipp can play in any system, but more use of a 3 man CM might suit GLC and Ndombele more
- Son and Bergwign are probably good for a 3-4-3, and Son for the 3-5-2
- Kane obviously suits any formation

Not good:
- Dele: not sure he fits into either a 3-4-3 or a 3-5-2
- Not sure our CBs fit any system (bar Rodon)!
- Lamela wouldnt fit the 3-5-2, and probably not a 3-4-3

Perhaps therefore our squad, as it is today, suits Nuno's tactics more than a 4-2-3-1 manager?

Sorry that's a bit unnecessary -"try not to think too much" - I thought this Forum was for people to give their opinions, having considered their view. There are polarised views on this Forum - those who defend Levy and Enic to the hilt - and those who question their capability and criticise them. Interestingly I find the people who support the current regime tend to be those who are sometimes quite nasty to the doubters - I am not saying you have been nasty but some comments are better thought than said... :(

What you are seeing is frustration that is actually counter to your opinion/projection

Generally there are two sets of people on this forum

- People who think anything ENIC/Levy is bad, anything good that happened in last 20 years = luck, and our progress is actually behind the curve
- People that think ENIC/Levy makes mistakes, but in large part (especially considering our starting point) the club progress has been positive

Opinions are exactly that but what has happened recently

- Any opinion counter to the sky is falling, the stadium is on fire, Spurs is in a mess = defending ENIC to the hilt, ENIC stoogies, Levy fans.

And that brick only comes from one side of the debate. What is fudging hilarious is you projecting that, while saying in one breath "people who defend Levy to the hilt" then complaining that same people are nasty to "doubters" (effectively accusing people of exactly what you are doing). Go look through the Manager thread, the Levy thread (I can quote if you want) to see how many snide ass comments are made by "doubters" not calling out Levy but other people on the forum, e.g. "I'm sure right now someone is writing up a defense on ENIC" or as I have been accused of "championing accounting success"

NO ONE on this board believes ENIC/Levy is beyond reproach (in fact several posters have been at pains to explain exactly that), however several people on this board do believe there is very little Levy/ENIC has got right that isn't luck.

To be honest, it's fudging tiresome

- debate the point without making passive/aggressive statements about other posters (you have something to say to someone, reply button exists)
- Try to remember we all love this club (not a choice), so listening to someone constantly bricking on the thing you love is frustrating, especially when it's parroting a narrative that often can be easily disproved
- And finally, if Spurs has you (not specifically you) so fudging angry all the time, you get so wound up that any counter point has you screaming at the "other side", take a break, some people here seem so angry for so long I truly wonder about their mental health.

I quite understand the reservation about the Mendes connection but I don't get where the idea has come from that Nuno doesn't play attractive football. Wolves have long been my second favourite team since the 70s (Dougan, Richards, Wagstaffe, McCalliog, Carr) so obviously I watched them come up from the Championship and then play some great stuff in the PL. They raved about Wolves on MotD. How many managers would allow Traore to try to try to beat half the opposition before passing? Sure, Wolves declined recently after the long term injury to Jimenez and then the sale of Jota. Where do the Nuno detractors think Spurs would be if we had had no Kane or Son last season? I think the expression is "serious relegation fears".

I think its the defensiveness of his football, rather than it being unattractive. His teams pass the ball, rather than hoofing it, and generally have ball-players and decent dribblers like Jota, Neto, Podence, Traore etc. but they are defensive in their approach as Wolves fans will testify

I'd say that a Fat Sam or Sean Dyche play unattractive football, which is quite different to Nuno

That said, I think Spurs fans will get behind him and support him even if for the majority, he wouldnt be their first choice man today (I'd go Potter, or Favre or potentially a couple others)

Bale to play the rampaging Traore role!

Based on when I see Wolves against us I think what we’d look to add is some more technical players to replace the runners and a new physical centre back or two. Maybe one of Lo Celso or Ndombele would make more for more of a playmaker from deep?
Or maybe that’s just me thinking those are our weaknesses for any system based on having the ball?!

Roll up! Roll up! See the incredible SPURS MANAGERIAL RANDOMISER!
Round and round and round it goes! Where it stops, nobody knows!
Will it be the pleasant Portuguese? Or an angry Italian?
How about a boring Brit? A Spaniard? An Argie?
Round and round, a merry dance! you touch yourself and take your chance!

Nobody but Levy and (I hope) Paratici have any idea. While I do think that Levy needs to step back a bit, I don't agree with those saying that Levy shouldn't have any say in the new manager - you'd expect any senior corporate hire to be approved by the hiring manager's manager, so why should this be any different?

After the Mourinho disaster, I'd be wary of getting too close to Mendes again. I worry about how we spend the Kane money, should it come to that.

Nuno isn't an awful manager but he's not someone to get excited about and if it's him everyone know's he's only coming because we ran out of other options.

What with both Gattuso and Nuno being pushed at us it does feel like Mendes is looking for his 25% of any Kane money.

Be like Harry, Willie and the Legend of the 5 Right Backs all over again.

Guess that this summer is particularly difficult to recruit. Lots of obstacles to international travel. Simple things like interviews, and sitting down with someone...quarantine, the difficulty of having family move around etc. plus managers tied up at the Euros. Everton and Palace are also run badly?

Also a new reality in regards to finances. Conte, gattuso, galtier, probably zidane all leaving because the clubs don't have money and are needing to cut costs.

Didn’t A lot of Spurs fans want him as Poch replacement? but now he has had 1 bad season they have all of a sudden had a change of heart. Pretty sure everyone was cuming in their pants about Wolves and the football they played before last season.

I am not sure they wanted him as a Pooch replacement but i do remember s ome raving about him and i could not really understand why.
