Next Manager?

Players within the #thfc squad had reservations over the club potentially appointing Antonio Conte. Those players were informed about how extreme and demanding his methods were.

We could be the first club to forgo having a manager completely and just let the players do what they want. Niche.
Haven't we already tried that in our final 7 games of last season?

Sacking Jose before a cup final and a game to win a trophy - the very reason we hired a manager like Jose in the first place - looks shoddy and dis-organised, especially now.
If there actually wasn't a manger lined up to take over, then at the very least it looks like money to pay out in compensation afterwards (if we had won) was of more importance to keep low than the possibility of the club winning an actual trophy.
I can think of no other logical reason than this.

It is odd the way it seemed to happen so quickly but as I've said before, I don't buy that it happened then because it would have been cheaper than sacking a cup-winning Mourinho. I'm not even sure where this comes from other than a t witter rumour.
If in your job you were non-figuratively days away from possibly meeting one of your targets (in Mourinho's case, a cup) and had a few weeks remaining where you still had a chance to achieve another target (in this case CL for next season), and you were let go with immediate effect, with lower compensation than if you had met your target(s) and got your bonus, you'd have your employer up in front of a tribunal before he'd waved you out the door. I know things work differently with football contracts but it just isn't a plausible scenario imo. I could be totally wrong but if Mourniho's contract allowed that to happen, then he needs to get a new lawyer.
So what other logical explanation is there? I just can't find one?

I have a feeling it's going to be Conte after all, simply because Levy doesn't have many other options. Once everything has been signed and the dust has settled, Levy will come out and say how much he appreciates Conte's hardnosed negotiating style.
I can't see it..... The only way we can satisfy Conte's likely demands is if Levy is working hard trying to secure us another £200 odd million of long term debt - and with us already having the largest gross debt in football I just can't see this happening.

It was mentioned in at least two newspaper articles that I read - including in The Guardian.

Doesn't make it true, of course, but it did seem to be out there as being part of the mix which had driven the sacking at that particular (and very strange) moment.

I'm not sure that a majority of the fan base thought it was bad/negative news. I think most were happy for Jose to go, just seemed a bit mental for it to be done in that particular week.

THFC sacking Mourinho is big news on the outside and draws attention to bad decisions/performance/turmoil - common sense would say to me that the club would perhaps want that type of story overshadowed/buried

Whoa Whoa Whoa! Hope you are not daring to suggest the club might seek to manipulate media coverage to achieve their PR objectives?

Seems like this will be an excuse for a bad start to the season what with the Euro’s aswell. I have always backed Levy and appreciate how far the club has come since the Sugar days but he is starting to take the fudging tinkle now.

If paratici is coming in he'll be doing the transfers and selecting the coach. As long as he has them in place by the start of pre season training we'll be fine.

So Levy's reputation is more important to him than the club winning a trophy? I wonder what the decision would've been had winning the League Cup been worth £30m?

I'm glad Levy sacked him, the way we played, it was painfull to watch. Levy saw an opening and pulled the trigger, thankfully. Who knows what kind of clause he had if he won something and became virtually unsackable. To be stuck with that nails on the blackboard type of play for years, only because we won a Caparacabao cup, no thanks!

The football was indeed horrid; like there was no coaching going on at all (apart from getting everyone to stand behind the ball in a low block).
So i have no issue with him being sacked.
Being sacked less than a week before a cup final when we'd had ample opportunity to sack him before (e.g. that woeful week we had vs Arsenal and Zagreb) is the thing that makes little sense, given that we are still without a replacement now..

I mostly agree with you here, though I would like us to have a bigger head start than that considering that we need to do a reasonable amount of chopping and changing to the squad.

How can you still not understand what i was saying ?

Your argument seemed to be that you didn’t think we spoke to Poch / Conte solely for a PR push. Neither was mine. I too think we spoke to them seriously, and was happy we did so. Right decision. But I question the briefing from the club that we were close, that Poch wanted to leave PSG, and that Conte was a front runner with talks progressing well. The difference between speaking to them and having it appear like we were super close is the issue.

Seems like the idea of the club caring about PR is outrageous on one side of it, but not on the other? Either they do or they don’t. If they are liable to make a football decision to bury bad news, they are certainly liable to pump stories to the media to boost engagement.
