Who do I want as a manager? Don't know. It would be nice to have Poch back and succeed, not so nice if he fails. Again. Other than that, I could not care less about the name of the manager and what he has achieved in this or that club. Success is dependant on so many factors other that who's in charge and even your own club. It's not only the level that your club is on, but also those around it. To be honest, Poch had a system which looked really good, but it wasn't a sustainable one without regular renewal of the squad, and without a solid kingpin it is really transparent and easily falls apart. His best years also came in a period where the top was in a bit of a turmoil, where City had a great squad but an average team, and mainstays like United and Arsenal were in free fall. Likewise, an average squad can make up a great team, if you have the right topping. Heck, even Leicester could be champions, and Norway was at a time 4th on the Fifa ranking.
What I'm looking for in a manager is a direct one, who has a system in place and who brings in players primarily to fit that system, not adapting the system to showboating but inferior and ineffective players. Equally as important, being able to identify and bring in those players. No, I'm not talking about needing Ronaldo and Messi to be competitive. A while back Poch looked like that man, but what was his strength became his weakness. Shoehorning in players at the expense of the team. Would I want, say Pep? No. Would I be opposed? Probably not. Achieving success at a huge company with even greater funds doesn't necessarily equate to success as the manager of a chip shop. Put it this way, I would rather have a "prime" Wenger than a "prime" Ferguson. I cannot remember ever "wanting" a manager other than Hoddle, and that was a hugely emotional one. On the other hand, I cannot remember actively not wanting a manager either, other than Mourinho and Graham. Right now, I just want a manager who makes us play something that looks like organised football again.
