Fair enough.
I think the point I am driving at, is that if it isn’t ETH, I don’t think it’s some clever calculation by the club because we actually want Potter or Lopetegui. I’d say ETH is the best qualified and most obvious, hence the links ramped up with him first and we more than likely met him. Young players, good football, speaks English, European experience. A profile that would come close to Kane and Son believing that the club was still going
places, and not having to sign up for another 3-5 year project.
As it is, I just don’t buy any of the excuses around what we are doing right now. I think we met ETH, and he didn’t think his vision was compatible with Levy’s and it sent us back to the drawing board. Whether it is spun as him staying or is pulling back, it’s the same outcome for the most likely reason that they probably couldn’t find enough common ground IMO. And then we come to the fact that every other Manager has some risk or trade off attached to them, which suggests to there isn’t some strategic decision to pull away from him while
he actually wanted us, and more we now have to weigh up a handful of options who are kind of a much of a muchness.
And before people say I am assuming a lot, yes I sort of am. But it is pretty clear which journos have connections with the clubs and don’t just put out idle speculation. And from that, we are able to piece together some likely parts of what has happened. It might not be the exact truth, but it will be the truth one side of the situation wants to spin. Hence why I think it’s pretty clear we met ETH, and why I think it is interesting that we couldn’t make it work with him. (Whether on our end or his, I would have thought if we were really it to push up the league again and challenge for titles, he’d be well up for it.)
