New Stadium and Training Ground - Pg 104 Northumberland Park master plan

Mayor Praises Tottenham Transformation

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, today visited a new community hub to boost jobs, volunteering and youth opportunities in Tottenham, part of a £41m regeneration of the area.

The Mayor's funding is transforming the former borough planning offices on 639 High Road, Tottenham, into the first Team London Enterprise and Employment Hub in the capital. The hub will boost jobs and skills for local people by housing business start-ups, training and volunteering. The original building was burnt out during the disturbances in Tottenham last summer.

The Mayor was joined by Tottenham FC star Ledley King and David Lammy MP, as he met young citizen journalists from the local Dandelion media project, and older residents already using 639B, the temporary hub building set up adjacent to the main site, learning how to use the internet thanks to Mayor's Team London MiCommunity project. The Mayor also got to speak to Zone One Radio, a web based youth training scheme using the site.

The Mayor announced earlier this year his plans to invest the biggest portion of his Mayor’s Regeneration Fund to kick start economic growth and boost jobs for local residents in Haringey. 639 High Road is scheduled to fully open in November and will house business incubator spaces, a social enterprise café, Team London volunteering opportunities, meeting rooms, a crèche, a training suite, a music studio for young people, a social space for community groups to use and other uses to be determined through collaboration with the local community .

A Tottenham Taskforce to oversee the delivery of the Mayor’s Regeneration Fund has been established by the Mayor and the borough to bring together a wealth of experience and expertise to support the development and delivery of the regeneration strategy for Tottenham and to champion the area.

Investment through the Fund will support work in Tottenham across the following areas:

• £27 million for North Tottenham/Northumberland Park – to support transport infrastructure and public realm improvements to help unlock proposals for the major stadium-led regeneration scheme.

• £3 million into a package of works to improve the High Road, bringing disused buildings back into use, paving the way for growth in terms of housing, employment and community.

• £4 million to support an Opportunity Investment Fund – to purchase key sites to bring forward development on the High Road and at Tottenham Hale.

• £3.6 million for an Employment and Skills programme to provide support for hard to reach young people and problem families in terms of employability, access to jobs and skills training.

• £3 million to transform 639 High Road for community use.

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said: "I am determined that this investment will see lasting change, bringing opportunities, growth and jobs, raising the sights of Tottenham’s young people and instilling the belief that they have the same opportunities as others to realise their potential. Every one of its residents has a crucial part to play in the shining future of this great world city."

QPR having a press conference tomorrow to reveal their long term plans, ie. new stadium. Will be interesting to see how many plastics they think they can get.

There might well be a press conference tomorrow but the "big" announcement will be in the next half hour.

And Fernandes has said that the new stadium will have a capacity of 45K.

Just two days ago it was 35K.

He said on his Twitter account: ‘QPR fans. We are not ready to announce stadium. But making good progress.

‘Will not be a bowl. Will keep the atmosphere. Will be 45k capacity. Will be in West London. Narrowed down to 2 places.

‘I hope we can announce full details within the next 2 months. But as you can imagine this is not easy but tremendous work has been done.

‘Our major announcement today is at 3 o clock and what the shareholders of QPR believe is a statement of Intent for the future.’

QPR could be very attractive for corporate entertaining if they can find the right location, maintain Premiership football and price it right.

45,000 corporates? :)

Its at least 20,000 too big. The BBC are moving from white city into central London. Probably that site.

Obviously not 45,000 corporates. I would imagine that they will have to discount a lot of tickets to get a decent attendance for most games but Fernandes is a very wealthy man, so it is not going to bother him.

I'd agree that White City is the likely location, it is pretty well served by public transport.

It's not one of my favourite things about modern sport but I would imagine that corporate hospitality will play a big part of their plans. Being able to offer top flight football, in a reasonably accessible location and at cheaper prices than other London clubs would be attractive to a lot of companies.

Yeah I agree it'll be a good location etc for corporates. But what is the total corporate capacity at the lane? 1000? The seated capacity needs not belted than 25,000. It'll look terrible with a half empty stadium and Rangers will do well to stop in the league with their signings do far IMO.

Their fanbase has remained pretty static for decades and I agree that it is currently no where near big enough to fill a stadium of that size. My guess is that they will drop prices and offer discounts for kids/families, hoping to pick up new fans and neutrals.

Right next to Westfield too, get lots of people that will come along, leave their wife/gf shopping while they go off to the game etc

GHod what a depressing image. Do you really think it'll be pay on the door casuals that'll fill the ground? No affinity to rangers but jut come along for the entertainment?

Depressing

I think that there would be quite a lot of interest in a London Premiership club that was affordable to take a family too and you could get tickets

How do you think a lot of our fans started supporting us? My dad & uncle and their uncles/cousins used to go to spurs as kids because it was the local football ground...they didn't have an affinity until they got into it...

I like QPR and I like Loftus Road - proper close to the action and dug outs. my dad has three season tickets over there and I go along every once in a while. First row east paddock. Next to the away fans next to dugouts. My dad also has gone to the corporate boxes to entertain clients etc and its a great day out good food, great view and not too expensive.

They also put names on the seats if your an ST. At WHL i get told to sit down (im on the last row of park lane upper)
