My first ever knee jerk

In fairness though, we are Tottenham Hotspur not Real Madrid. What ready made class players are going to want to sign for us when we can't offer £250k a week nor Champions League football. You bang on about people obsession with 4th spot. The point is 4th is the start of it, you can't go from 8th to champions in one go, you need to take steps. Fourth gives a shot at Champions League, which in turn gives you a platform to advertise the club to a higher calibre of player, who then signs and keeps the team in the top four. Years of this results in more quality players with the chance to cherry pick the best young players in the country, who could then grow into the next big player for the club.

You want class players??? Well either we get bought by an oil baron who is happy to splunk all their own cash on a bunch of footballers or you hope that we get a class of 92 come through who are Spurs through and through and carry us into the future.

We had them in recent years but sell them? You say about getting champions league well that isn't gonna happen if we sell our best players cos levy gets greedy and sees the dollar dollar sign. No doubt will hear all this 'can't keep unhappy player' bowlocks well we just got tore a new one today by an apparent 'unhappy' player who wants out. I'm genuinely of the opinion redknapp was shown the boot cos levy and co knew he wouldn't put up with us selling modric.

To be fair while I have criticised Levy for a fair bit in the past, I think he should be applauded for taking a risk on a manager like AVB, reaffirming his support for the manager, and backing the manager's choices of players (presumably). I'm sure he didn't expect this, and isn't any happier than we are - even if it is just considering the financial risks associated with doing poorly this season. It just looks like, despite the promising form, the horse he backed didn't train on.

Excellent post, totally agree. Even if Levy's choice of AVB turns out badly, it was a perfectly reasonable gamble to take and I don't begrudge that gamble not paying off.

This. And I'm not sure I'm ready to give up on AVB just yet, today makes me closer but I'm still hopeful

I think Levy got rid of Harry for personal reasons and not business reasons, which I do not support.

As for selling our best players, no I don't believe in it and I don't agree with it, but I do think we had no other choice. Modric went on protest the season before he was sold and we lost to UTD and City, if he had played would we have done better? When you have someone behaving like an **** it does bring team morale down. Footballers like Suarez, Modric, Berba have their own career ambitions and will move on if they don't think they will be met. Bale wanted out and I think Levy meant to keep him, but lets be honest he is not worth £86 million. It's enough to make anyone think about it, because he likely realised that we needed decent players in many positions and that the club would never be able to afford them. We have constantly lost our best player and had to find a half decent upgrade, with that cash Levy rightly thought that we could revamp all the positions at once. Now we are in a situation where the players aren't performing but this is deeper than the sale of Bale. We were bad last season and are bad now, make of that what you will but I personally was fed up with our performances with Bale and was not happy to see him digging us out of trouble every game.

uarez will leave Liverpool this summer and they will brand him disloyal etc

Can't deny that this is also a reason for days like today. Not Levy being greedy, per se, but us caving in and selling our best players all the time.

Liverpool also had their suitors for Suarez, Arsenal and Madrid chief among them. They told said suitors to f*ck off. Now they're reaping the rewards of that steadfastness.

We put up a bit of a fight for Bale, and then caved in when our parent club came calling with an enormous wad of dosh at the ready. We became the good little feeder club again, after setting such a fine example with our point-blank refusal to sell Modric to Chelsea two years prior to this summer.

Modric got on with his game after his attempt to move was foiled. Suarez did the same. But somehow we are led to believe that Bale would never have been the same again if we had stood firm and refused to sell to our parent club Real. I'm seriously starting to doubt that assertion.

Suarez didn't look 'unsettled' today. And if they get CL because he stayed, then he'll probably have no reason to leave and will probably extend his contract. We could have done the same. But no, we caved.

Sigh.

Exactly!! You wanna go forward you keep your player it really is as simple as that. Sad thing is people will still be sticking up for levy next summer when he sells lloris and vertonghen only weeks after season tickets have gone up in price like clockwork every year. Fed up with it all I aint saying I want a sugar daddy ploughing money into the club just want an owner who has higher ambitions then finishing 4th on the cheap and posting profits every single year.

This !! Your correct but some will not have it..levy also has to be held partly or fully accountable for this shambles

Agree let's change it to the serious concerns about levy and the way he is taking us backwards thread.

A great big bumpety bump. Everything I said proven once again. Can't wait to see what gems we sign once levy gets his hands on the vertonghen and Lloris money

Good thing we had the money from the Modric sale to pay for them in the first place, no?

I'd rather have kept modric out best centre mid for 15 or so years. What is this fascination with just sticking up for levy.

Because your view point is completely unrealistic

- Manure couldn't keep Ronaldo, Scum couldn't keep half a dozen players
- Bale is being paid $300K a week, you really think any player is going to say no to that?

Complain about how the team is playing, the results, whatever. But the keep your best players is just a naïve point of view. Unless you are willing to pay money (that Tottenham just doesn't have), players will go to where they are paid the most (firstly) then where they can win stuff. Sorry to burst your bubble but we would be third on that list.

Selling players u don't want to when they have 3/4 years left on contract is just bottling it unless of course you're more than willing to sell. As Barnett said in summer we entered negotiations with Madrid as early as end of May levy wanted to sell from day dot £$€. As for this 'sulking players' argument levy brought thaton himself players now know that's all you have to do now and he'll sell.

Suarez didn't look unsettled last season really but he couldn't wait to leave and will do they same this year regardless of where they finish. It's human nature to want to better yourself and some achieve greatness by doing so

I also don't believe there was a serious bid for him from arsenal. I'm using the logic that they actually plaid more for arguably a lesser plays in a role they didn't need in Ozil. If they wanted him and bid serious money they could have got him. It reminded me of where we almost got so many players but not quite....

Arsenal are arguably a minimal step up from Liverpoo but United, Chelsea or City are as they play for trophies every season now. And it will be Madrid and Barca plus many others thi summer IMO all I'm for him

Thought I'd give this a great big BUMP! Bar Levy clearly smoking crack this morning and Ina moment of madness froze ticket prices today every single point I made in my original post I still stand by. Actually turning in to a joke of a club and are heading one way and one way only. Cheers Daniel!!
