What would the alternative be?

Not sure. Fighting fire with fire in the press? At least getting their side out a bit more?

I’m going with the idea that we’ve done nothing wrong. If that’s the case, what’s the rationale for being silent? Surely putting your case out there too has equal benefit?

Perhaps it is payment terms. Perhaps Forest’s actual angle is ‘we don’t have to accept the bid while legal action is pending’ and we know that they have no evidence. So we’re going to wait an appropriate amount of time in order to just say ‘if you had evidence, you would have brought it by now, so if you don’t release him we’ll be making a legal claim against you. But we don’t want it to come to that…’

It’s funny, I can see a world where complete silence implies we’ve done something wrong. Or it implying we’ve done absolutely nothing wrong. And I’m assuming since the noises out of Spurs are ‘this deal will still happen’ that we know we’ve done nothing wrong, or it can’t be proven.

Silence in the public isn't silence with Forest. The thing is, we need Forest to confirm that our offer is officially accepted and so if we can agree terms with MGW they will release his registration to us. We cannot register him without this so if there IS a release clause and its been met, but Forest are refusing to confirm that his registration will be released there is nothing we can do and it will boil down to MGW. He will need to push the issue of his contract being broken. While we may have been told that there is a release clause triggered if we bid a certain figure, until we actually have sight of the contract we don't know for certain and so if Forest are refusing to confirm or deny and telling us to f**k off or face legal action im sure we will have put the ball in MGW and CCA's court - i.e. "you've said MGW wants to come here, you said Forest would release him if we did this, that's not happened- you know the terms of release not us - if you really want to come here you need to force the issue or we will move on"

I feel like MGW at least for now is playing the role of ‘I’ve never said I wanted out, I’ve kept up in training, I suited up for the game’, I feel like that is all very deliberate, and what Spurs would want him to do if they were crafting the narrative that they did nothing wrong.

If the deal is still alive i don't see any need on our part to get our side of things out there - it won't push things along, so what's the point? If anything there would be a chance of further damaging any potential deal if their owner is the type to throw his toys out of the pram. Frustrating because as supporters we want to know the ins and outs of everything that's going on but that's the way it is.

I'd expect that if the deal dies that's when we'd hear our side of what went on (but only via 3rd party journos) - If we end up signing him then we'd likely not hear anything more about it.

Why antagonise things if we don’t need to?
The PL is a small group, with a few newcomers and drop outs each year but nonetheless a fairly consistent group. It makes sense to keep things private if discussions/negotiations are going on in the background. The main concern is can we get the player we want and what’s the best way to reach that point. Getting into a public debate won’t help us achieve that.

I agree that it’s likely that our silence means the deal is still live, despite what Forest are saying. I would just love to know more of the specific calculations in this particular poker game. I find it fascinating.

Totally! I’d agree, if it wasn’t for the fact that Forest are accusing us of breaking the rules. They’re seemingly not bothered about it being a small group.

Again, I’m not criticising the Spurs strategy, and I agree there is a method to it. But it’s fascinating to think about the different calculations regarding the different moves available to them, that’s all. I might not be explaining myself very well.

Thanks! They did make make me lino last night for a kiddos match and ref an U10s game (a very emotional affair) on Wednesday so I don't always get to sit down. And the club have asked me to stay on paying for my badges to coach. Football is quite a fun game once you get involved in a real capacity.

Fair enough for not getting it straight away, it's a good sign that you're not permanently online! I do think the link to the story was probably enough to connect the dots, but I'm not the memelord master..Imagine being that sleazy bloke who divorce is based on the events unfolding at a Coldplay concert.

Coaching is very rewarding, and allow me to offer one piece of advice shoul you take a youth team on. Gather all the parents at an early training session, thank them for their upcoming support, let them know that you don't need them 'coaching' their kids and shouting at them during games as it will confuse and frustrate them, encourage them to offer loud encouragement, and let them know that if they still feel they need to shout instructions on match-days that they are welcome to take your place on matchdays and at practices! In other words, get them onside early!!!!!! Enjoy, it's a lot of fun and there's no greater joy than building a team out of some good and some very average players who all work together and have fun doing so. Keep us up to speed on how it goes!!!

To keep this thread-related, it cannot be long before MGW signs. Maranakis doesn't have a leg to stand on!!!! I agree with those who say this will likely come down to MGW handing in a transfer request (if he hasn't already). Maranakis simply wants the fans to think he fought for them. It's all PR puff and bluster IMO. We're right to quietly work in the background. I'd say if there has not been significant movement in the next week or so, we will start to see the player himself crank into gear. Expect various 'muscle strains' to develop, etc, etc...
