Monaco OMT

Yes usually that is the case, but as we have seen in the recent past that is not always what happens - and when the season is at an early stage and the teams above are looking less than convincing it would be outright foolishness to give up on the league

They'll spend £100m each if they are not where they want to be come January.

We just need to concentrate on glory through the cups, and retaining our EL status, until the stadium opens.

We will find out tonight whether Poch (and by extension the club) agree with you. If I was a betting man I would be backing Poch making five or six changes from Saturday's team.

This game is more important than Swansea.

Especially after Ar5ena1 and Chel53a's comedy exploits in the week make it even more likely that only the top 3 will get CL (as Italy are about to overtake England in the coefficients).
I don't think anything can change in terms of number of CL spots until the end of NEXT season?

IMO this game is no way more important than the one against Swansea.

But I think we need to prioritise this, then play Wimmer, Trippier, Winks, Townsend and Njie against Swansea.

We can win this cup with proper effort, whereas we'll finish 5th (worst 6th) in the league whatever happens
I don't think we are good enough to win this competition, as has been proven in recent years.

But there aren't any good players available in January (isn't that what is said when we do our usual and fail to strengthen?)

Also not sure that Poch agrees with you on concentrating on the Cups seeing as how he played a weakened team in the Cup that we probably had the best chance of winning.

We also need to be careful that we don't finsh 7th/8th and miss out on European qualification full stop.

That's nonsense, none of the top sides look convincing early on and we have every chance of finishing above one (or two) of them if they underperform for the duration of the season and we play to our best.

That's not to say we should sacrifice Europe, we're more than capable of taking both this and the Swansea game seriously

Yea I'd make a few changes but still a strong side.

Njie for Kane - Clinton obviously impressed enough against French teams for us to buy him and I reckon he'll be wanting to prove himself to the French public. Kane needs a rest.

Trippier for walker - obvious but I don't think we lose much here

Rose for Davies - again there is a fine margin between the two of them so team is not significantly weakened, if at all, with this one.

Would love to give Dier a rest, but no one is fit at the moment so he has to play alongside Ali.

Chadli replaces Son - injury.

Lloris
Tripp
Vert
Alder
Rose
Dier
Ali
Chadli
Erikson
Lamela
Njie

That's 4 changes, 1 enforced and only 1 position where we are clearly weaker than first choice. Hopefully bentalab, Mason and Dembele are back soon so we can give Ali and Dier a break.

Looking the rest of the weekends fixtures a win against Swansea could see us jump to second or third. Going into the break in that position I would happily settle for a draw tonight. Don't think that will be easy but with switching in some of the squad players achievable.

I think Poch will change at least one CB, one CM and one more AM though, my prediction is 8 changes from Saturday's team.

  • 01 Lloris
  • 16 Trippier
  • 04 Alderweireld
  • 05 Vertonghen
  • 03 Rose
  • 15 Dier
  • 20 Alli
  • 11 Lamela
  • 14 N'Jie
  • 23 Eriksen
  • 10 Kane
Substitutes
  • 33 Davies
  • 13 Vorm
  • 21 Fazio
  • 27 Wimmer
  • 17 Townsend
  • 22 Chadli
  • 28 Carroll

I don't think we can change CM with Mason and Bentaleb still out. Carroll isn't up to this level and it's too big a game to throw Winks in.

Defense has to be strong. After that take your pick, with resting key players a priority. I'm wondering if Toby can play DM to give Dier a rest with Wimmer and Jan behind him.

Fringe players or current squad players that should get a start for me are Trippier, Rose, Wimmer, Carroll, Townsend, Njie and Chadli

Don't care who fits in around them but with the risk of injury and the need to test these guys out (or help get some form in the case of Chadli)... that's what id change

We should be trying to win (and prioritise) this and the FA Cup, as we have a chance of winning them.
For anyone who thinks we should prioritise the league to get into the CL, why?, because we're not going to win that cup (and don't say to sign better players because it's more about how much you pay). Until we can offer big wages (stadium paid for), our players will get bought as soon as they show serious talent.
Therefore, know our level and bloody win something.
IMO.
