Modric - No Longer A Spurs Player

Hard to tell if there is anything more in the story than the Sky seeing him arrive and leave Spurs Lodge. The rest of those articles could easily by built on things already mentioned in this thread.

Assuming that all other first team players are going on tour, I don't see that Spurs have a choice and have to insist he goes to the US. The clubs position is that he can leave if the price is right or he has to stay. There is no suitable offer at the moment so the default position is he is staying. If he is staying then he needs a preseason. Logically he still needs a preseason if he is leaving so there is no valid reason for him to skip the tour.

If the club accept that he is going and let him stay behind, then they lose any negotiating leverage, essentially telling Madrid they can have him eventually even if they don't pay the asking price. Modric refusing to go on tour would be an attempt to force a cut price sale. Essentially he would be breaking his contract and trying to defraud the club of true value of an asset, probably in return for a bonus from Madrid. That would be a crime in most businesses (except the financial sector where they too would probably give bonuses).

thiS is the bit i dont understand. its clear as day

Of course the articles posted above could be pure speculation and the reality is that the club have given Modric permission not to train or travel. From AVB's previous comments it looks like the club are willing to sell so this whole player revolt slant is probably horse brick. Journos under pressure to file copy is more likely.

what remedies for said breach? force him to play. and he plays like brick or simply refuses. we dock his pay. leaves us short of a playmaker and no imminent replacement. leave him out? the longer he doesn't play in a public feud with the club results in the plummeting of his perceived value which is what we wanted to avoid in the first place. either way we are fudged. i am a fan and have a right to be irrational. stupid **** does not want to play for SPURS, he can just fudge off.

Beat me to it. That's my thinking too.

everything you say here is true. except for the damage it does to the club in future when something like this comes up

if you give in now then you give in all the time. we dont negotiate with terrorists. otherwise they keep playing the same card.

dock his wages......his value will decrease but it will never decrease to the point that we feel its best to play in to player power

tell him to go to US or he isnt getting paid.

i actually dont mind a wasted asset like him rotting away so that we strengthen our position as a bargaining club

if real madrid dont meet our valuation they can fudge off. this thing that modric does to force our hand into getting cheated in todays market isnt something we should indulge

There iare none. Even when Tevez went back to Argentina, City had trouble with the PFA when trying to fine him (actually just withhold) more than the allowed two weeks wages. IN the end City did fine him more but they still ended up paying his wages for most of his "vacation".

Recently we have see a shift towards more player power. We've long accepted that a player can leave for a richer club when they make a suitable offer, but in the past the player had to go to the highest bidder (or opt to stay). Now the better players can just choose the club and if they are willing to be cvnts the will get their way. The richer clubs get their player and the selling club had to accept a reduced price. Once the choice of club is clear there is little incentive for other clubs to make offers and make it a competitive market.

Last season, Modric returned and honoured his contract for most of the season. However, we can't escape the fact that one point in those opening two games would have been enough for Champions League football.

If he stays on Sept 1st he will play as normal. All players in his situation change once the windows close. At that point he knows it is a fait accompli . Players do not want to be hated by their own crowd. See his reaction to the first goal he scored at home last season.

Players agitate less for a move in the Jan window. Now is the only time up until Sept 1 is his chance and the time if he chooses to, to be a little awkward.
