Micky van de Ven

Him and Romero were rushed back, weren't they?

Yes.
I was saying to my mates when I saw the team that I was worried. One would've been enough. What I personally felt was that there was pressure on Ange to get a result. I understand what I'm about to say is without knowledge or context of what happened, but surely your DOF has a meeting with you a day before and makes it very very clear that your position is solid/not reliant on getting the next few results, and that you should not risk key playersbefore they're ready. Ange has NEVER done it in the past, which is why it's hard not to think pressure was building. Again, pure speculation.

If nothing else, he’s probably heaping a lot of pressure on himself.

Yup, both only resumed training in the days before €helsea match.

Can somewhat understand gambling on vdV as Davies had also succumbed to a hamstring injury but Dragusin was performing well as RCB.
I thought similar on Sunday. Dragusin wasn’t even a desperate situation. If anything, Dragusin should have been given a few games with VDV and Cuti should have earned his way back in.

I made the joke we will hear the hamstrings go like a brick guitar

It worries me how much Ange must rate Romero.
Romero is the best passing Cb in the league, he dictates tempo, and he sets the tone of much of what we do. I have doubts about his focus this season, but we can clearly see why Ange wants him out there as much as possible. Having said that, I'd have maybe gambled on VdV, started with Radu, allowed Romero at least two weeks proper training before playing him, and subbed Mickey after 60 mins whatever the situation.

I think his passing ability is highly overrated. He's capable, but he slows down our play so much. He certainly sets the tone with his lack of leadership and brainless defending 😁. I'd be delighted (and a little shocked) if Real came in for him, but it's more likely we'll give him a massive, new contract unfortunately.

His passing is outstanding for a CB
He does slow it down however but that’s part of the way to engage the opposition
Real Madrid won’t buy him though … unless they change their model on actually paying for players

Somewhat "body language expert" territory here, but the way he looked on the touchline against Chelsea (from what I saw on TV) he looked like a man feeling the pressure.

Understandable if so. He knows we're in a tough spot.

I think it is anything but overrated. He slows down the play because that is what his manager wants him to do. The tactic is to draw out the opposition and to find a passing lane forwards to a player in an attacking position in the centre of the pitch.

I know that, but I don't agree with it. All movement stops and we end up passing it backwards and sideways while the opposition settles into their defensive shape.

On Romero, he is the worst at this. Standing there with the ball under your foot isn't going to drag the other team out.

Could not agree more and imo he is our best CB, he came back the other night [ when he was probably not fully fit] which shows imo his commitment to Ange and the team.

From what I’ve seen this season Ben Davies is our best centre back

I have always rated Davies and had several discussions with fans who think/ say he is not good enough and he is a waste of space. Mister dependable at either FB or CB and imo always has been. BUT Romero imo is a better player on form.

The way I see it the vast majority of the time Romero stands with the ball is when the opponents are already settled in their defensive shape.

You can try to move the ball quickly from side to side for example to try to move the opposition around and create space like that.

You can try passing backwards to try to lure them out.

Romero tries to wait for the right movement from our players for someone to be in a better position to receive the ball with a progressive pass.

That is a perfectly reasonable way of doing things, if you have the required quality on the ball to do so.
