Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

Way too much made out his press conference answer than you'd get from actually watching it. At point does he mention anything about leaving Spurs if he wins.

The whole thing is about Poch ending this 5 year chapter at Spurs and starting a new one.

During the clarification question at the end. Poch still doesn't get that the journos are confused. Poch believes to win with this Tottenham would be "a miracle" "in this circumstances in this season" and to repeat this he and "Daniel" need to make changes.

Here's the full thing:

Dan Kilpatrick: You've been quite clear that [at] the end of the season, you want to start a new chapter and the last five years has been a kinda separate chapter from what's coming. What would it mean to you personally to finish this chapter by reaching the champions league...

Mauricio Pochettino interrupts: ...by winning the Champions League

MP: Yes. It should be fantastic no? Eh, close a five year chapter... and go home.

I think we might actually make the final now, because the only thing worse than losing the semi is getting beaten by them in the final, the ultimate kick in the gonads.

It is really stupid of Pochettino to say things like that just before our CL semi final 2nd leg. Spurs players are always mentally fragile. Not sure how much impact it will have on the players for the remaining matches now.

Not in the least worried about his "go home" remarks (happen what happen). Just his way of taking the píss out of the hack and his desperate, clutch-at-any-potential-straw-of-controversy question. Nothing whatever to see here.

In the press conference ahead of the first leg, a journo mentioned again about Poch having said he did not want to win the FA Cup or League Cup. Poch - deep, exasperated sigh - “no, no. Let me explain it to you one more time...”

I've watched the full conference and am struggling to see how people can twist this to say that he definitely did not say he would be leaving.

That would be your work done here.

So there's two options. Yes is undoubtedly one of them.

The thing is, I don't necessarily blame him. He has looked tired and a bit fed up at times this season. 5 seasons...is quite a while in modern football and he may see the winning of such a trophy, big at any club but huge at Spurs, as the pinnacle and see his time as done.

What I want to know is what on earth the point of making such comments, even if 'a joke' before such a game?

Either way, whatever happens tonight and whatever happens this summer (or even if the worst somehow happens on Sunday), I still love Poch and everything he's done for us.

He wouldn't be exasperated if he made his points clear in the first place, rather than garbled half-jokes and vague sentences that trail off into

His views on the cup competitions have been clear since the first time he spoke about them and it's a crying shame that our own supporters are still willfully misrepresenting him on the issue despite him setting the record straight several times for those with a little more mince between the ears.

If he is thinking of quiting I am sure he would not announce it in the press first. Doesn't seem like something he would do. I think he is just expressing that it would be an incredible experience to win the Champs League and difficult to top. English is not his first language and so he struggles with the subtleties of some expressions.

Absolutely, announcing that he'll quit Spurs in a CL semi final press conference would be bomb-dropping of don't-mention-the-war proportions. Take into account the press not standing off after asking thousands of times about the United job in all of 2019. He must be so sick of it. He even says that he'll maybe discuss it with Levy afterwards. I mean, come on. Whether or not he has his mind elsewhere, you can read absolutely zero from what he says in such interviews.

People need to stop using the language thing as an excuse I think. He's been in England, in the top flight, for ?7 years now. His English is almost exemplary. He has a few stock phrases he likes to repeat for sure but

My Spanish is about the same level as his English was maybe 4-5 years ago (was better before) and I would not accidentally say that. He is pretty explicit in what he says there. He doesn't say he's quitting Spurs, he doesn't say he'll definitely go but he raises the prospect. In a way that, in my view, has nothing to do with language comprehension.

I just don't see the point of it. Its also pertinent to point out in my opinion that this wasn't a question he'd been asked lots of times, it wasn't a leading question. It was such a softball question. What would it mean personally to win it? Silly question of course (he's hardly going to say I'd hate it) but nothing leading and no repeating questions.
 
Remind me how many times Poch has walked out on us? This must be the 10th time he has said he's doing so now :rolleyes:
