Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

Agree if it was Zidane they would have just appointed him. But as for Poch playing devils advocate, he wouldn’t want to leave mid season firstly because of not wanting to leave us in the lurch mid season, and also coaches always say it’s much tougher taking a club over mid season and much prefer doing so in the summer. Also gives him more time to weigh up his options if he is Utds main choice and he has a real decision to make. Just a couple of possibilities....

I'm quite sure poch and levy have discussed this, if poch wants go I can't see levy letting stay and give him the honour of opening the new stadium.

Not sure I buy the bit about taking over mid-season - if Poch went there now, he'd start a long way back with a new squad so expectations for this seasons would be low. However he'd be able to use the time to get to know the players, work out gaps, who to keep/sell etc. Contrast that with moving in in the summer when he would be expected to perform straight away

they're supposedly appointing a dof soon, who will presumably assess the situation during the season and put forward targets for the summer

re why a caretaker appointment

You don’t have to buy any of it, none of us know but they are legitimate potential reasons . It’s wishful thinking from anyone on here thinking we are in the clear because Poch would have been appointed straight away if it was him they wanted....

Agreed.

And Poch isn't stupid and that is what some people on here seem to be missing. You can get angry all you want at the media but he would be one of the top people on Man Utd's list to take on the job.

From Poch's PoV, it is very easy to stop these rumours. Having been asked, as he was a few days ago, he can simply say no I will not be managing Man Utd next season, I will be here at Spurs. I have no intention of taking this job. Good luck to whoever gets it, feel bad for my friend Mourinho etc etc

For reference, this is how Poch can say those words:

But I am an Espanyol supporter. I don’t think I need to speak too much. It’s like if one day [the Tottenham chairman] Daniel Levy sacked me – in a few years it would be impossible for me to manage Arsenal. In football I know it is so difficult to keep your values and to be loyal – with your heart and emotion. But for me before being a manager, before being a player, being loyal is more important. I am an Espanyol fan. I love Espanyol. It’s like Tottenham for me now. It will be impossible, one day, to move to Arsenal. It will be impossible.

He doesn't need to say absolutely never. He may fall out with Levy, he may get fired, he may get bored of things here in 10 years and want something now. But none of that is likely to happen this season so it is irrelevent to give it the old things change in football and Levy might fire me! cheeky routine he often gives.

I'm not saying he will go. I'm not saying he is considering it. I'm not saying he will go even if Man Utd want him and he wants to go. But the reality is that Poch has the power to stop these rumours and he batted the questions away a couple of days ago with very generic 'football' answers.

The reality is that we may need a more definitive statement from him at some point because I can imagine this will rumble on for the entire season.

I find it interesting that Utd have immediately gone with a caretaker til the end of the season. Why? Surely if you fire your manager then you've been thinking about it for a while so your thinking of who to replace him is well advanced.

On that basis, who might only be available in the summer, or want to see this season out before they leave? Allegri has to be one strong possibility - won countless titles with Juve but wants to get a CL win. Not sure who else...however if they want Poch, why wold end of the season be easier than now? If they want ZZ, why not just hire him?

woodward doesn't appear to have given any thought to any of his actions at united, he's been solely reactive

that's what people said last time the United job was on offer and last summer with Madrid and yet here he is - time to trust the bloke as all he ever says when you get down to the nuts and bolts of it is that he's here and see's his future here

That may have been what other people said but I didn't see it that way. I never thought Poch would go to Madrid literally days after signing a new contract and I didn't personally think Poch was their top choice when LVG was fired either.

I think this time is a bit different with regards to the intent. We'll have to see anyway. I hope OGS does amazingly/ Poch really does want to stay indefinitely.

personally i don't think he's the type of guy that would walk out on one club and go straight to a rival anyway- if he ever does manage United id expect it to come after a spell abroad.

* i know we arent traditional rivals with United but in this sense i mean the top 6 in England are all in direct competition with one another, leaving one for another imv would go against a lot of what Poch speaks about with regards to loyalty and respect etc

This evening I loved not only our gritty performance but especially our use of the dark arts during the last 20 minutes of the match

It was absolutely hysterical, baiting Arsenal and watching them fall for it every time. They are overly emotional, they celebrate too much when they get small victories, and they rise too easily to provocation when they are losing. They aren’t winners, they are this generations’ bottlers.
