Mathys Tel

He has some potential but he's not currently demonstrated anything in the 60m type range. Odobert looks ahead of him and is also settled in an actual position and he cost not even half that amount. I'm not anti Tel but 60m at this stage seems a vastly inflated price for what we've seen so far. I'd happy take him on loan again next season with an option to buy.

Yes. But it's not evidence he can do in the EPL.

For me, he's Gelson Fernandes. He'll be back in Ligue 1 in two years at Marseille or Monaco.
He'll pop up occasionally in the CL and Bayern fans will laugh.
He'll pop up in the Europa and our fans will blame Levy that he isn't the second coming of Gareth Bale

My Bale comment was a joke about our fans - I could have said Pele, Maradona etc.

I don't see anything in Tel; didn't before he joined. I hope I'm wrong.

Some people on here are suggesting two goals against a team that includes players from the French 3rd division and Finish 2nd division is some indication that he is good enough - it isn't.
Indications that he is/isn't good enough will come in our shirt.
 
I think Tel has a lot of good attributes but still has a lot of learning and developing to do before he'll be a top 6 level PL player. If we keep him then I suspect we'll see bits and pieces of him looking alright next season and then see him starting to show he is a good player the year after that.

I am amazed that they are fans who are judging a 19 year old player on just a couple of games. Madness imo. I agree that we should give him some time before we can really say how good he is.
 
I thought he had some good moments vs Fulham. Loved how he convened with our fans after the match as well. Must be difficult to come into a team in so much disarray. Took his goals well for France the other day. He played as a striker, right? Hopefully he can blossom with us.

I think it's completely fair to discuss whether a player is worth 40 mill or not, but the sample size in this case is obviously very small. Ideally we'd have him on loan for a year or so. Let's see, I hope it works out.
