Match ratings - Swansea (poll added to opening post)

Re: Rating vs Swansea

I agree alot of the time with you GB, but I cant today with Soldado.

I agree his linkup and hold up play this season has been good, but today he offered nothing. Put his performance up against Bony's and its like chalk and cheese.

loris - 7

Walker - 6
Fazio - 6
Vertonghen - 5
Davies - 7

Lamela - 5
Mason - 6
Bentaleb - 6
Eriksen - 7

Kane - 8
Soldado - 4

--

Dembele - 6
Stambouli - 6
Chadli - N/A

Finally... someone who clearly actually saw the game!

Perfect ratings IMHO

Re: Rating vs Swansea

Gobsmacked by the Fazio comment. He repeatedly let Bony lose him. dreadful performance

To me our whole defence was sort of playing zonal in open play. It wasn't like Fazio (and at other times Verts and Walker) just lost Bony, it was like they had been instructed not to pick him up and to just hold position instead. I'm not sure what we were trying.

Re: Rating vs Swansea

Soldado was tidy in the hole. 6 is my competent rating.

Eriksen spent most of the game hiding on the fringes. And Walker tried very hard, but was (naturally) completely lacking any sort of sharpness; and at fault for losing Bony as much/many times as Fazio.

I think you will find that is where he was played. So that will be Poch's fault.

Re: Rating vs Swansea

Soldado wasn't even playing upfront. Kane was and Soldado was in midfield.

I think you're just making it up as you go along.

and that takes into account Kane moving up front when Soldado was rightly hauled off for being a waste of space with a good 35 minutes odd to play.

Re: Rating vs Swansea

Lamela got 5 for what? being ****? almost getting us down to 10 men? giving away the ball constantly?

I guess for being slightly better than Soldado. But then, as you say, a 3 for Soldado and 4 for Lamela would possibly be fairer.

And for those saying that Eriksen played on the fringes, did you notice his immediate change when Lamela was taken off?

Lamela and Soldado have no place in the current starting 11...

I would switch that around, Soldado actually won the corner that we scored from ... Lamela tried his best to get sent off.

Both had poor games, yet one played for 82 minutes which cannot be explained

I think we could easily do two different sets of marks for this game, one set per half, that's how much our performance varied.

Lloris -6- Thought he could've been a little more dominant at times, but didn't have all that much to do (they had 3 shots on target).

Walker -6- For that first hour I'd have given him a 4, he was that poor. However he upped his game and put in a solid performance.
Fazio -5- Lost Bony on more than one occasion, but dominated a lot of the aerial challenges as the game wore on.
Verts -6- Also lost Bony and looked very shaky, but not as bad as his CB partner.
Davies -7- Was gonna be a 6 because he lost Routledge, but he then got the assist for the winner.

Bentaleb -7- The central midfield was overrun at times, but he did an admirable job all the same, directed our play and slotted in to defence when Jan or Fazio went out with Bony.
Mason -4- Poorest game he's had for a while. His passing was off today and they pressured him for most of the game which shut him down.
Lamela -4- He did a good defensive job, but offered very little. He doesn't dribble with pace and unless he's playing off the striker, I don't think we have room for him.
Eriksen -7- He looked good for most of the second half imo. Got the winning goal, can't say much more.

Soldado -5- He created a lot of space for Kane et al to work in by drifting deep and wide and stretched their back four in the first half. Second half he was ineffective.
Kane -8- Good link up play, good goal and worked hard. Thought the pen appeal was a dive tbh, minimal contact from the defender, but he and Eriksen were the only two players out there who looked likely to score.

Subs
--------------
Dembele -5- He didn't do that much, created one good opportunity.
Chadli -5- Didn't really do much.
Stambouli -5- Did break up play a couple of times, picked up that yellow.

Poch -5- I think the team shape was a problem today and we didn't deal well with Montero or Routledge for most of the game. Our midfield was weak and we were lucky. Then again the changes he made did seem to help us wrestle some control back from Swansea as we started to retain possession in areas where Soldado, Mason and Lamela were losing it.

Another point for those taking it up against the two CBs. Where were Mason and Bentaleb? No defensive cover whatsoever. No shield in front of the back two.

I suspect that Mason will be our next Livermore. Good first impression but then failing to take off and move on from there...

Livermore would have been good enough to get in our team I reckon...

Sandro/Holtby/JD could all be added to that list

Its always the case - once a player leaves or is injured for a while, you forget their limitations. Sandro is a crock, Livermore cant pass, shoot or tackle and defoe spent his career off-side (though did have purple patches)

Don't say I'd want any of them back, but lets be clear - Sandro is a much better DM than any option we have now, I'd rather start any game with Holtby than Lamela, and those two are Poch decisions ..

That's a ridiculous assessment of Livermore....

I agree that Sandro is better than Capoue, Dembele or Stambouli but I dont think thats the reason he was sold. Saying he's better than some sh1te DMs isnt saying much!!! The last 18 months Sandro has looked like injuries have caught up with him in teh same way that they did for Ledley and the same way which they have with Kaboul

Lamela is clearly strugling to adapt. Poch obviously thinks there's a top player in there so is worth giving him the game time in order that he adapts. He also did do well in Italy. Someone said earlier this week (I think in this thread) that Ronadlo was another similarly talented player from a slower league who came to the PL with a big price tag and potential and for the first couple years tried to do too much fancy stuff and struggled to adapt. that obviously doesnt mean that Lamela will become Ronaldo but it does show that sometimes you do need to give players time to settle and get used to the league

which part of it? Livermore assets are that he's a physical beast and has a great work-rate but he doesnt have the core skills needed to play in the top half of the PL (and I know that you're now going to cite the goal he scored against us!). Hull is a good club for him and about the right level for his abilities - they'll bob around between lower reaches of the PL and half of the championship. Bruce is also a good manager for him

Can someone please explain this "struggling to adapt" concept? How does elbowing players or going in two footed come into this? Or dribbling yourself into your opponents over and over and over and over again? or losing the ball under no pressure?

And pleeeasee... let put this ridiculous Ronaldo argument to bed once and for all. It is so ridiculous and anyone resorting to it is only showing their desperation in propping up their arguments.
