We don't really know the details.

Maybe he argued with the players, they rebelled against him and said they won't play, maybe he stubbed out a cigar in someone's eye, maybe he told the chairman to suck his plums, maybe he shat on the boardroom table, maybe he is a brilliant manager and was going about everything the right way, I have no idea.

He had an excellent season with them last year, they kept him into this season, and on the back of 5 poor games he has gone.

Yes, but we don't know what has really gone on. You have to be within the club to really know whether he could turn it around or was on a hiding to nothing. We have no idea.
 
With Nolan the most likely scenario is the board getting fed up with him banging on about inevitably being offered the England job very soon.
