Manager Sack Watch 2013/14

I feel sorry for Hughton but Norwich have been very poor this season after spending a fair bit of money in the summer and their fans have been scathing of his selections, tactics and use of substitutions.

Wonder if Fer or Van Wolfswinkel will look better under a new manager.

It seems a bit rash to sack Hughton. Yes, Norwich have a tough schedule ahead but I doubt that the teams below them will collect many points between now and the end of the season

I think he would have gone at the end of the season regardless. He's not good enough to take them any further, so might be good to freshen things up.

Hughton's best achievement at Norwich : destroying Spurs's CL hopes 2 season in a row. Don't know how we lost 4 points to them last season and 3 points this season. We also lost to them in the CC. Hughton somehow turned Norwich into our bogey team in a very short period. So we can be glad he is no longer at Norwich.

Norwich's strikers really hit a blank, didn't they? A few goals would have made all the difference.

The times I've seen Norwich they seem to create chances but just can't finish. RvW really hasn't delivered at all this season considering the last few years he's done pretty well in front of goal, is it 1 goal all season? I thought Hooper and RvW were pretty decents buy's in the Summer for Norwich, just goes to show buying outside the Premier League comes with risk.

Strange timing of Norwich's decision. Do they think their caretaker will have a greater chance to win any of their last 5 games?
Perhaps they think they are down already.

Very odd timing indeed

Chris Hughton sacked

Norwich have sacked manager Chris Hughton and replaced him with youth coach Neil Adams.
The Canaries were beaten 1-0 by West Brom on Saturday and are five points clear of the relegation zone with five games remaining.
They are still to play Fulham, Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal.

"Norwich have adopted the high-risk strategy for survival by sacking manager Chris Hughton with only five games of the season left. It may be, however, that the Carrow Road hierarchy feel they have nothing left to lose after the 1-0 home defeat by fellow strugglers West Brom.

"The Canaries are five points clear of the drop zone but they have a fierce run-in starting with a visit to another side fighting for survival in Fulham, and followed by games against Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal - so the scale of the task can be seen.

"It is also a sign of the fear of dropping out of the Premier League that a club renowned for stability should take such drastic action at such a late stage, leaving former youth team coach Neil Adams to try to keep Norwich up.

"In some respects Adams is in a 'no lose' situation. If he keeps Norwich up he is a hero - if they go down everyone will blame Hughton anyway."

A Norwich statement said: "The decision has been taken to give the club the maximum chance of survival."
Former Saudi Sportswashing Machine and Birmingham boss Hughton, 55, guided the Canaries to 11th in the Premier League last season.
But they have lost four of their last six league games and have scored just 26 goals all season, despite spending heavily on Ricky van Wolfswinkel and Gary Hooper in the summer.
Sections of home fans chanted 'we want Hughton out' during the West Brom defeat, but after the match Hughton insisted he was confident of an improvement in form.
"I understand frustrations and it is normal, but we have to understand it is us as a group and everybody is going to get us the results we need," he said.
Adams, 48, made more than 200 appearances for Norwich in the 1990s but has no first-team managerial experience, though he did lead Norwich to FA Youth Cup success against Chelsea last season.
"People know what this club means to me, and so it goes without saying that we will be doing everything possible to ensure that we maintain our top-flight status for next season," he said.
"These final five games will be a huge test for us, and everyone must step up to the mark. But with the full backing of these magnificent Norwich supporters we will have every chance of achieving our objective."
Norwich's run-in
Sat 12 April: v Fulham (A)
Sun 20 April: v Liverpool (H)
Sat 26 April: v Man Utd (A)
Sat 3 May: v Chelsea (A)
Sun 11 May: v Arsenal (H)
Hughton's backroom staff of former Nottingham Forest and Hibernian manager Colin Calderwood and Paul Trollope have also left the club.
Norwich chief executive David McNally said: "Neil Adams is a progressive and successful coach who has served this club as a player and a member of our coaching staff in exemplary fashion over two decades.
"With our fantastic fans getting behind Neil and the team in the games ahead we will greatly improve our chances of a successful end to the current campaign."
Norwich's next game is at Fulham on Saturday.

They've lost 4 out of their last 5, maybe they felt that they could not afford a similar return from their remaining games.

They also play Fulham next, a win there and they are probably safe

My thinking is, their next game is THE GAME that will decide their fate, I doubt they will get anything from their last 4 matches. Defeat next week to Fulham leaves them on 32pts, 2 above Fulham, that not be enough buffer to stay up.
Perhaps they are hoping a man in now may just get enough 'new manager bounce' to snatch a victory. A victory that I would think is difference between staying up and going down

That is how I read it as well, It is like being down in a casino and banking it all on black.

4 months too late. Best squad Norwich have had in years, playing some of the worst football. Bizarre decisions by Hughton have cost Norwich a lot of points this season.
Most fans here in Norwich celebrating the end of Hughton.

We'll all be celebrating if they win their last game against Arsenal if it condemns them to
Thursday night football next season.
