To me it's clear that Bergvall is an 8. That's where he played under Ange, and he was great. De Zerbi has also said this preseason that that's where Bergvall wants to play, and he agrees.
Unfortunately last season he was barely played there, if at all. For me that's on the manager(s) and the club's situation, not him.
Indeed I just checked and he's only played 1215 minutes as a PL starter in central midfield (around 14 starts) - 301 last season, and 914 the season before that.
So he needs a run of games staying fit and playing in central midfield to see what he's actually capable of. Not necessarily starting every game, but certainly starting a few.
