Liverpool thread

I can't honestly remember any Spurs player breaking someone's leg or causing a serious injury since I started following us back in '58.
I'm possibly mistaken and I'm sure someone will recall a case.

I think you could make a case either way for the VDV/ISak challenge. I did think at the time, "ouch hope VDV doesn't get sent off." Whenever you engage in a scissor type challenge around your opponent's leg there is a risk of injuring that player. There is no intent on VDV's part but I don't suppose that is a consideration if the charge against VDV is that he was reckless in making that challenge.

What is extraordinary though, is the coverage it gets. I can't think of other decisions which take up so much media time. I remember the Joelinton tackle on Kudus in the CC. Nothing said. This will run on for days...

Think it's the fact it resulted in a broken leg that's generated the discussion to be fair.

I also don't class it as a scissor tackle. He's ended up in the similar position as a scissor tackle but it's just a sliding tackle. He has nowhere else to put his other leg unless he goes two footed.

Because it’s the victims.

But when you make these last ditch tackles there is a chance that you will injure your opponent. And effect of the tackle was the same as a scissor which is what did the damage. There is, for me, a case that it could have been seen as a "reckless" tackle although I'm glad he didn't get sent off. Others will disagree and that's fine it's not clear cut. I don't think it was intentional to injure. But I know I would be annoyed if one of our players got injured that way.

If you step on a football pitch, there is a chance you injure someone or get injured. It's a reality of the sport.

I agree with your post though. I can see why the Dipper fans would be tinkled. I would be if it happened to one of ours but I don't think it's anything other than a very unfortunate incident where no-one did anything particularly wrong or maliciously.

This.
I have seen very lazy use of the phrase scissor tackle. His initial challenge is right leg is extended to block, left leg tuked behind and as he slides it comes around. He does not go on two extended legs; ironiclly if he had the injury would likely not have happened. It was unfirtunate timing as Isaak planted the injured foot and momentum carried VdV through.
