The Baggies - who narrowly avoided relegation last season - pulled off a coup by landing the England defender on a free from Emirates Marketing Project and he officially joined on June 20.
West Brom convinced Lescott he would not be stuck in a fresh battle against the drop as they intended to sign more exciting new players.
But of the Baggies’ top striking targets, Monaco frontman Emmanuel Riviere chose to go to Saudi Sportswashing Machine and Ecuador’s World Cup winger Jefferson Montero now looks set for Swansea.
Albion are understood to have completed a club record £10million move for Dynamo Kiev striker Brown Ideye.
But his capture is in stark contrast to the £12million signing of World Cup star Enner Valencia by West Ham, another club that courted Lescott before he chose the Baggies.
Valencia impressed at the World Cup for Ecuador while Ideye did not go to the tournament with Nigeria.
New boss Alan Irvine admitted the club are struggling to complete deals. The former Everton coach said: “We have good players here, no question, but there are big gaps
