Lennon is a great example of how we have not stepped up to title challengers, he does just enough not to be dropped but has never really taken on the challenge of becoming a real elite player. Whether its quality or confidence, Lennon seems to be waiting for someone to get him going and to believe in himself. Maybe things are too easy for him at Spurs.

I still think Lennon will have a role to play.

However, lets take an alternative look at his position. He is not involved with England now. If he could establish an impact sub role with us, he could get interest from England in that role. Doing well for us as starter hasn't drawn attention, so the impact sub could be his ticket.

its a preferred style of AVB to play mourinho's style. ergo he'll have inverted wingers...and due to chadli's size can deputise as forward on the far post

but i'll say this. as far as making an impression on the opposition, i'd have lennon ahead of chadli and townsend

lennon is a top class footballer and i would rather have him on my wing than anyone else in our squad right now

but townsend is? doesnt compute to me personally.......maybe top class is a stretching it abit. but lennon is definately one of the most dangerous wingers ANY full back will face

the mere fact that he is probably the only winger the REGULARLY terrorises evra and ashley cole says it all for . all we have to do is isolate him on the flank.....and lennon will do the rest.

i bet there is not one full back you can think of that can hold lennon down when he is isolated with them. am not talking about when he is doubled up cause we dont have a supplier..am talking about when you feed him early and he is going at someone.

and his end product has improved ALOT. his decisions making on the final ball though definately needs work..and his build up play in the slower tempo game could also do with alot of work..but other than that...as they say in Geordie shore....he's mint

I think he will be a squad/impact player this season.

I hope he will take that as a challenge rather than resting on his laurels.

But no way should we sell him.

I like Lennon and his defensive work is very underrated.

But like the demise of 4-4-2 was a blow for forwards who can't play the lone role like Defoe, the emergence of inverted wingers/wing forwards has made touchline huggers like Lennon to a large extent redundant.

His days were numbered the moment AVB walked through the door. Lennon is a winger in a 4 man midfield. He can't play a more advanced role in my opinion. His only chance of fitting in would have been to adapt to the left wing. Townsend looked like an average left winger until he went to QPR last season, and now he looks like a good right inside forward. If we played with a 4 man midfield Lennon is our best wide option (assuming Bale's deal goes through), but if we are playing 4-3-3 or some variant of then Lennon simply hasn't demonstrated that he can adapt his game to suit. Townsend gets the nod at the moment.

Also if we were in for Willian AND Lamela, that definitely points to the fact that Lennon isn't regarded as a first choice by AVB. AVB doesn't rotate that much, even when he had a large squad at Chelsea, so these players being brought in aren't just there to make up a squad.

Dawson has become a key player and continues to be captain.
We dont know what happened with Ekotto.
Huddlestone just didn't fit.

Lennon is a very useful player to have. Can play left or right, quick, can beat a man, very hard working, great defensive abilities. Whether he's a starter or not, he's still an important player to our squad in my view.

The Dawson situation suggests AVB can have his mind changed by performance and/or expedience.

Yup, I think he's off and will be sold in the manner of Caulker, with everyone questioning whether its such a smart move but ultimately the club doing what's best for the system.

We don't look good playing orthodox wingers with AVBs style at home, and AVB knows that. We have far less of a goal threat, and can't control a game. The balance and shape is not conducive to good performances.

To me it's clear, Lamela and Townsend on the right, and Chadli plus one other (Eriksen, if he can play there, or someone else) on the left. And that's not because I don't love Lennon because I do. I appreciate everything he has done for this club but I think it's time he moves. AVB did his best to accommodate him last year and he can part in good terms....unless he can convert to the left inside forward which isn't that much of a stretch to be fair, considering Jol always thought he had the talent to mix it up.

I'd def keep Lennon, can cover both wings, perhaps needs a bit of competition for places to regain his mojo, plus we cant keep getting rid of our homegrowns we'll have none left at this rate
