Lawro the Twunt says...

What Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert needs is a reaction from his players after the 8-0 loss at Chelsea. That doesn't mean they have to win but they need to show a reaction because they looked like Rag, Tag and Bobtail at Stamford Bridge.

That's the risk you run sometimes when you play a load of young players and Lambert knows that.

The thing about young players is that they will turn up at the training ground the following day and after about half an hour they will be bouncy again.

The thing about Villa and their supporters is that they get what Lambert is trying to do. As long as they stay in the league that is all that matters.

Tottenham came up against a very mean Stoke defence in a goalless draw at home. They will thinking they have lost two points but will look at Villa and think, after their clattering, they can go there and win.

But it won't be that easy. I just think we will see a vastly improved Aston Villa who will have a real go.

Tottenham are a good side but I think they will struggle to finish in the Champions League places. They just tend to disappoint a little bit.

Prediction: 1-1

Did anyone see the Twunts shirt on match of the day last night? For those that didn't you have now, the rest of us are scarred for life and as it's Christmas I thought I'd share.

Lawro the Twunt Says (Sunderland)...

Sunderland v Tottenham Hotspur (12:45 GMT)

I thought Sunderland did really well in their win over Emirates Marketing Project on Boxing Day, purely and simply because they just stuck at it.

City hit them early on but couldn't score and, as the game went on, Sunderland grew in confidence, got the goal and they could have won by a bigger margin in the end.

People talk about the importance of confidence in football and it is so evident with the Black Cats.

Martin O'Neill's side have now won three of their last four games and look a very different team to the way they were a month ago.

They will dig in again against a Tottenham side who were in control from minute one against Aston Villa.

Spurs ran out convincing winners thanks to Gareth Bale's hat-trick in the last half hour but the game could have been wrapped up even earlier than that - there was a huge gulf between the two sides.

I am not so sure Sunderland will let Bale do the same - their defence was particularly impressive against City, and that sort of attitude and application should get them a point.

Prediction: Sunderland 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur

Re: Lawro the Twunt Says (Sunderland)...

This will be similar to the Stoke game. But we are defending better recently. And I think we've finally sorted out our form in the North East to some extent in recent years, a win and a draw against them in our last two visits and unfortunate to not collect 3-4 points from our last two games at Saudi Sportswashing Machine.
