Jobs

Popped into specsavers tis morning (just having my eyes checked as i could not believe what i was seeing last night COYS)

Anyway, on leaving i noticed on Monsoons window that they required shop assistants, then phase 8 (wmns shop) the same, cheltenham & gloucester customer advisors.....the list goes on

town cafe, mistral, white stuff, nuffield healthclub and nandos and this just from adverts in their windows.

All i hear is there are no f*cking jobs :-k

While I have no doubt there are hundreds of thousands of people, even millions, who are trying as hard as they can to find a job, I believe a lot of people are using the 'there are no jobs' line as a cop out.

There was a Panorama a few months ago where the host interviewed a couple people on a poor council estate. First was a dad who lost his job and took on two part time jobs as a cleaner to try and get by. Then cut to him interviewing three lads in their early 20s, they drop this 'no jobs' line. He asks them if any of them would work as cleaners, they all say no.

Exactly the problem.

Many years back, the only time I have ever been un-employed, I took cash-in-hand labouring jobs, and finally took one on regular employment as an aircraft cleaner.

It can always be a stepping stone.

...and they would also say.. "If I take the cleaning job then I won't have time to job hunt properly for something I actually want to do" ](*,)

there are jobs. There is just a lack of "good" jobs, and that is the problem for lazy people.

There are jobs out there, like you say, cleaners etc. but lazy people won't do it. Shame really, you should be willing to do whatever you can to get by, if you don't like it, look for others WHILST you have the brick job you do etc.

Remember though lads there are a lot of people in insurance, banking, social etc (just to name a few) that have been in these industries and been made redundant or lost their jobs and just dont want to change industries. They would find it hard to take another job that might demean (is that a word?) them so they end up looking for jobs in their industries whislt being on the doll...

If their industries are fudged they should go re-skill.

Here is the link on iPlayer to the Panorama

What a disgrace a lot of these people are. Watch from 38:30 for about 5 minutes. One kid wakes up, rolls a joint, goes to the gym. The next guy lost his factory job so now he's working two cleaning jobs, and he's tinkled that people on benefit have more than they do. It's disgusting. The family who work hard have a tougher life than the bums on benefits.

in addition to that a lot of people have insurance on mortgages/credit cards/loans etc which pay out when unemployed meaning they will be better off not working until they can match a certain wage

i don't understand why their ain't any aprentiships for people over the age of 40.

their's no such thing as a job for life nowadays and we're all expected to work to 67+now. I would gladly like to learn a new skill rather than learn a new language or how to water paint in college.

I'm sorry to stereotype but I'd wager for every 100 out of work 5-8 WANT to work.

While I don't think it's quite that low, there is a clear need to differentiate. There are those who don't want to work full stop, those who want to work but only on their own terms (i.e. work in a specific sector) and those who are willing to take any job.

Those in the first group are a disgrace, but it's the welfare system that has put them there and trapped them there. The second category I suspect is by far the biggest category, likely well over 50% of the unemployed. I don't have a problem with waiting for the right job per se, especially if you're recently out of work, but there comes a point where you need to just take a job. Most people aren't willing to take any job, and I suspect it could be as low as the 5-8% you suggest

I reckon it's more like 6-9%. ;)

I really don't understand the benefit system at all, I don't get why they just get given money, why don't they get given vouchers or a pre paid card that can only be used against heating/electric/water bills or to buy clothes and essential items in supermarkets or basic shops but can't be used to buy alcohol, chocolate, TVs, PlayStation's or any other luxury items, and don't tell me it can't be done, I can control my TV using my phone so this must be possible.

If this was the way it worked 90% of the people on benefits would start looking for work immediately!

I don't understand why this can't happen either. Surely a handout should just be for essential items. I don't mind so much paying my taxes to keep people in food and heat but I object to working and paying for them to enjoy luxuries while I'm struggling to pay for luxuries myself.

Anyone could end up unemployed. I don't doubt it will happen to me at some stage. The state has to cater for this but I object to having to pay for people who think that unemployment is a career option and that they are entitled to whatever luxuries they please despite not doing anything to earn them.

Exactly. Why this isn't done is beyond me. For everyone on benefits too. No fags, booze or gambling would be allowed and rightly fudging so.

Everyone?

I assume you don't actually mean everyone. Those who are unable to work for instance.

For those on Jobseekers i agree though. Vouchers would be the way forwards.

I really like the idea of vouchers, but it seems to fundamentally conflict with my beliefs in the freedom of the individual. I say give people enough to survive, and if they choose fags and booze over food then let them starve.

I know what you're saying but what about those people who will chose their booze and fags over feeding their kids properly?

A friend of my missus is 23 and has two kids and hasn't worked a day in her life. Not one day. Her fella is 22. He's never worked a day either and spends his day on the X-Box. Yet they have a decent apartment in the middle of Dublin (not the greatest area admittedly) and go out most weekends. They dump the kids on anyone that will have them. Not sure about the first kid but the second one was planned. They have no intention of ever working. They've also just gotten...wait for it...two puppies. F**king two puppies so they could have one each (the parents not the kids).

If they were restricted on how much money they had, I'm sure the kids and the dogs would see a deterioration in the quality of what they get rather than the parents giving up their nights out or the X-box. I don't believe for a second that they would starve the kids but they would feed them crap.

Myself and my missus earn a good wage. We're very fortunate and at some stage that tide will probably turn on us. Even at that, because we have to pay our own way, we struggle quite a bit at times (we have a new baby too) and we have to fund these two wasters and many more like them.

I have no problem paying tax for the people who aren't as fortunate as I currently am and a lot of them will probably return the favour one day. Any of us could be out of work in the morning because the multinational that overpays me could up sticks in the morning for a cheaper alternative. But I'd rather sweep the roads then be career unemployed and I resent having to pay for people who think differently.

Nobody on benefits should be able to smoke / drink, have the latest technology in their homes

The benefits should be for essentials, food, water, utilities end of

To either cut down on beer or the kids new gear, it's a tough decision in a town called Malice....

That always resonated with me
