João Palhinha

Welcome.

Think he'll be a good signing. Doesn't solve our ball progression issues, but is a natural 6, should make us solid, bring experience and hopefully allow some of the others to thrive in roles more suited to them.

I think moving away from our 2-1-7 formation will help with ball progression. The opponent's half will be less congested and will allow us to move the ball with much more variation. I think Bentancur and Bergvall in particular are adept enough to do that role.

Bentancur is good at it in some phases/situations. Others not enough. Bergvall has real quality in him, but shouldn't be too heavily relied on this early imo.

We were very dependent on Romero, Porro and Maddison for that. I think Kudus will help, but that's not enough.

We need a Maddison option, we needed that before his latest injury. Or we're left hoping/trusting that Bergvall or Gray just step right up.

Kulu will be back soon.

Last summer he was a £47m star. Wanted by liverpool and others.

You're not following the golden rule, if potential signing is known they are either world class or s*** whereas if unknown they are potentially world class or s***. Who/if we sign a player it will spilt the fan base but it will generate endless lists of stats and YouTube videos.

TF sounds like he knows what he's doing...

"But [Palhinha’s] defensive qualities, his ability to be in the centre of the pitch, very disciplined, his distribution, short, diagonals, [passes] in behind and then his ability to break up play. Especially if you are playing away from home or against good counter-attacking teams. It’s very important to have one that, you know, is not running away or gets attracted to something. His set-piece ability in both boxes is a key thing and he has some experience which is good."

We have signed the least Portuguese looking Portuguese ever.

He's what we need, sometimes it's not about the £60m superstar its about shoring up a very obvious gap in the squad. He's our six. Next we need a 10 and an 11.
Can't believe he's not Brazilian. Not just the name/language thing, but just the mould of the strong and physical Brazilian DM that spent 12 years tackling awesome dribblers on the beach and in Brazilian academies.

Him on a loan could help free up funds to get that 60m (almost) superstar player too.

i believe he will be better if focused more on attack. in his first year I recall watching him initiating a few one-twos through the midfield to end up the extra man in the box. a natural moving forwards.
He was also good at pressing high up the pitch too....
