It would make for a convenient excuse. Vertonghen is 27 soon, if he has offers from bigger clubs then he isn't going to stick around. Playing beneath himself and displaying a questionable attitude isn't going to help him in that regard though.

You're right, not quite identical. The other article (post 1195) states

Vertonghen went on to say that he's 100% committed right now (my embolding).

H'mm.

I agree time to be strong and hold onto the good players for as long as possible, maybe giving anyone who looks like turning out half decent an extended contract to give us more protection.

I would give Eriksen a new contract now because if he improves next season by the end of that season he will only have 2 years left on the contract and start talking about how much he loves Real Madrid.

Whenever he can be arsed he's amazing. The rest of the time you dont know what you're gonna get with him.
We can't rely on him as a centre half.

And I really dont think he's gonna respond to an authoritarian like Van Gaal.

I think he wants to move to Spain, that's just my opinion. I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up at Atletico Madrid if they can afford the fee that we will ask for him.

I don´t think Vertongen has given up, thats your opinion. I thought Vertongen was excellent today for instance.

Dawson and Kaboul on the other hand should have retired 2 years ago, when they have played together our defense has been a f***ing joke.

Where was he when oxlade - chamberlain was played thought in the first half? That was embarrassing. And there were a number of other incidents like when nearly caused a penalty for pointlessly holding giroud i think it was.
