The couldn’t afford the £6m
I don’t think the clause was ever actually confirmed either but I haven’t checked
And of course the player has to accept anything
The clause was confirmed.

Sure, they could not afford £6m in one payment over the summer, but these days most deals are paid over the length of the contract. £6m over 4-5 years is a deal that can easily be done when you can flip him.

They turnover £8m and lose money on that
Would be the equivalent is bidding £450m on a player

Yes, Devine has a £6m contract but you have to put that into context, with PNE's biggest ever transfer being £2.1m. They are 17th in the Championship. Devine has only 1 year left on his existing contract with Spurs and I have a feeling he will be in no way interested in signing another contract. He will be totally disenfranchised with our club at this point and as a lad from He'll just want any move in the summer. I doubt he'll even stick around if we get relegated.

As for Donley, it's probably not too dissimilar but he has at least been at the club since 2013 when he was a kid. He might have some proper Spurs blood in him and see it as an opportunity to get established. Oxford's biggest transfer is about half a million. No chance they're buying him either.

These 2 lads will want to get out of the mad house ASAP in my opinion.

Maybe
That could happen
And if it does good luck to them
Just don’t see it being through the release clauses agreed
Devine for sure IMO could and should have been given more opportunities here
donley has time too… I mean we did have Ange okaying him left back not that long ago

Playing him at left back, and therein lies the rub.

Both are very good players
Whenever I’ve seen Devine he is always available and wanting the ball
Donley too
People will say look at their loans and quickly forget how our greatest ever player (in modern times) had a real mix of loans

True. But Devines done well on every loan. Had he been at the club the past 3 seasons he would have played a lot of games as well.
