Jake Livermore

This lad really is impressing me lately. Didn't think he had a future with us but he is looking like an heir apparent for Parker been excellent recently.

See I just don't see this personally. Parker is a defensive midfielder. Livermore is not. Livermore is more akin to a Modric or Jenas (and yes I am aware that Jenas isn't anywhere near as good as Modric, but Modric plays the way Jenas SHOULD play) than a Parker or a Sandro.

No, you're right its not really like for like Livermore looks more of a box to box midfielder but in our current setup whether it is Modric or someone else he will be asked to do more of the defensive duties to allow the more creative CM to pull the strings

I don't think Livermore/Modric could be a partnership in a 4-4-2 personally. There isn't a midfield of any formation that doesn't require at least one speciailised defensive midfielder to be consistantly successful in my opinion, and that is especially true for a 4-4-2. So one of the centre mids needs to be a specialised DM which Livermore and Modric aren't.

Fergie disagrees.

I don't see why that couldn't work especially against lesser opposition at home

Didn't they play in the middle together against Everton at home and it was generally considered that Livermore and the team performed very well?

My key word in my statement was consistantly. Poyet and Anderton played very well in a few games they partnered each other in central midfield (Everton again springs to mind!) for example, but they definitely weren't a good partnership.

Butt, Keane, Carrick?

Carrick in my view is nothing like Parker and currently lines up alongside Scholes, making his the ball player most of the time

BTW Batman, you're possibly the last person left on GG left who still possibly rates O'Hara of Spurs days higher than Livermore. Do you still feel the same? Many have held their hands up so far. Don't you think it's time to give this man credit where it's due

I have seen carrick make a 10 yard forward pass to one of his own team mates, so yeah he is nothing like parker.

I've had many many many examples of times when I've been wrong in my views on a player long term ie Bale and Benny for example, but Livermore is a rare case where I was very positive about him even before he broke in to the first team, been following him during his Derby County and Leeds days with interest so I feel like I should brag about this one a fair bit.

He has got a Huddlestone like passing ability at times but also a proper engine to go along with it. A player I've enjoyed watching this season.

Livermore if he's willing to not be the first team starter every game could have a long future with Spurs.

I think he's better than JOH was for us, but different, best thing about Lvermore for me is, he comes in and does whats asked of him.

Another prop to Harry with us being able to really use Walker/Livermore/Rose and potentially Caulker next season, after years of nobody coming up from the youth teams.

Really good player. He makes a lot of good forward passes, forward runs and succesful dribbles, and the ball seems to stick to him once he's got it. Plus, he's fast, powerful and can screen the defence pretty well if necessary. What's not to like? A bit more improvement and he could seriously threaten Sandro's place in the side when Parker's effectiveness drops. Hell, a bit more improvement and he could be one of our best central midfielders, right up there with Modric.

Plus, he's a Spurs lad from head to toe, loves the club like us. He could be our Daniele De Rossi. Same with Caulker.

The future's bright, the future's lilywhite....;)
