Injury Thread 18/19

It's not being written off all over Europe. Its just naysayer pundits moaning in the media like a heard of Piers Morgan's.
France, Germany, Italy and Spain all using it fine. It's not perfect but nor is in Tennis and Cricket.
It'll get there.

fight it! fight it! let it go! you know it makes sense!;)

Have you not heard what Poch has said about problems in Spain, Italy etc.

Yes!
His main gripe was getting the information to the punters quickly and smoothly.
Give it time! I remember Botham moaning about in the cricket 18 years ago!

No his point was that they are moaning about it over there as well as here. Not only the getting the information out to those at the game ( who are the most important over couch potatoes) but the mistakes that have been made.

Remember these things take time!

Really don’t trust those numbers myself

Using a players repeated injury screws the numbers up for a start

Surprised we arent top to be honest.

And before someone says "well all fans think that about their own team", its really not that.

Id like to see some analysis done including a weighting to how "important" the player is to the team. We'd smash that table...
I think west ham got shafted by big injuries last season so not surprised to see them there.

Utd had people like Rojo and Darmian out for big periods, not exactly essential players!

Arsenal? No idea to be honest, don’t remember the likes of PEA, Ozil, Lacazette, Socrates, Torriera, Xhaka, etc. Having too many injuries? So its the likes of Wellbeck and Maitland Niles, hardly Kane or Dele is it?

Thats my thinking.

Wasnt too aware of West Ham, but in my defence - its West Ham.

We lost key players at key times consistently all season. I cant think of another team with a similar season.

Of course, its probably happened, but Im failing to come up with a similar scenario.

It was a virtually strategic set if issues designed to nobble us.

Makes it all the more impressive we achieved what we did.

I was talking to a West Ham fan about injuries at the end of last season and he was bemoaning their fate in this regard. He also mentioned that Winston Reid has been on the injured list since the previous season. So this type of absence can also skew the figures a bit because he was never going to play this season just gone anyway.
Plus if you have Wheelchair on your books you’re pretty much guaranteed a top four finish in the injury table.

From Babe, to Hubby, to Him Indoors, to this?

I felt we had a strong weighting of injuries to key players last season, not just for the time they missed but the effect it had on them when they returned at below their usual level and the stretching of the rest of the squad to cover more matches. The real evidence for this will hopefully be next season when we see the impact of the injured players returning at their previous levels.

We also have our fair share of permacrocks, I wouldn’t factor Wanyama or Lamela into any plans next season!

I think we have less players in the AFCON and Copa than rival teams too, the whole summer off will give a few of those with question marks as to whether they have become injury prone a chance to fully recover ahead of the new season.
