Hugo Lloris

Re: Hugo Lloris - part two

Great news, now let's sign one or two players of his calibre!

Re: Hugo Lloris - part two

Brilliant, looks like we will be getting 30+ mill if he does leave in the next 2 or 3 years then. Should be enough of a deterrent for most clubs.

Great statement and kudos to one of the itk's the other week who said lloris would sign and that he sees the bigger picture with our squad and knows we underperformed, pretty much echoing the quotes in this statement.

Re: Hugo Lloris - part two

Pleasantly surprised! The only player who we seemed in danger of losing considering how poor/ average everyone else was last season.

Re: Hugo Lloris - part two

"Everything is clear in my head and if I've signed a new contract it's because I trust the club and I'm sure we will progress in a positive way."

"trust" meaning "if we don't show significant signs of improvement & ambition, or make top 4 next season we have a gentlemen's agreement that i can leave."

I don't know about the 30 mill.......there might be an agreed sum in the contract that allows Hugo to leave if we don't qualify for the CL. A compromise, maybe 20 mill. If I was Hugo's agent I would have insisted on something like this if Spurs wanted me to sign a new deal after all that has gone on in the last couple of years.

Lets hope Hugo thinks it's just one of those occasional couple of years and doesn't know enough about our history to realise we're always like this!

I can't see him being sold for less unless his form nose dives, in which case who'd want him? If all things remain equal in the next 3 years say, we'll still be financially secure, in no need to sell, with no will to sell and it would take a huge bid to force our hand, just like it did for carrick, berbs, keane, modric and bale.

If we don't want to sell the buying club needs to pay through the nose to get our players, recent history shows this.

I agree about the recent history, but I think a good agent would want to protect Hugo's interests and would realise that we as a club have played CL football just once in the history of this modern format so the club can promise all they want about wanting to improve and join the elite blah blah blah, but I'd want a get out clause for my client if he decides in one or two years that that lack of CL action is something he no longer wishes to put up with.

I would insist on a figure that is the market rate and fair to the club and player. That's what negotiating is all about. It might be anywhere between my 20 mill and your 30 mill, but as his agent I wouldnt have had my client sign that contract without an agreed sum that's for sure.

Top Four or bust? I'd snap his hands off.

Oh wait, he might be needing those!

Both modric and bale signed extensions a year or so before being sold and I think there was only talk of verbal agreements about being released, nothing in writing like victims had to agree to to get Suarez to sign the other month.

Maybe there is something, but it seems unlike levy to tie himself to something in writing. I don't believe he's ever agreed to a clause like this before for one of our players?

Re: Hugo Lloris - part two

Great news from the clubs point of view. I don't understand why a 27 year old who must be regarded as one of the best in Europe would sign a deal for 5 years with a club whose CL qualifying chances are slim though?? I'm being realistic here btw.

Re: Hugo Lloris - part two

Great news.. Would liked to have been a fly on the wall in that meeting to hear what convinced him to stay? I reckon he'll give us a couple more seasons, keepers can go on playing later. Imagine we will be sitting down with JV shortly aswell?

Re: Hugo Lloris - part two

Awesome - the best signing we could make this summer. The best GK I've ever seen play for us by a country mile (Jennings and Clemence pre-date me).

I'd like to see him captaining the team next season in games when Dawson isn't in the side.

One thing that slightly concerns me is that he was back training yesterday. We need to send him off for a proper holiday.

GKs are always cheap/underpriced.

Only 4 GKs in history have been sold for more than £10m (or more than Ross McCormack!). We wouldn't get more than £15m for him no matter how good he is.

By far the best goalkeeper I've seen at Spurs, fantastic news ! \o/

Because being happy and settled is more important to him than money? All people have different career anchors (Edgar Schein is a good read on this).

Lloris didn't want to leave Lyon - Lyon needed the money. As he and his family are settled here now, he could feasibly be with us for the next 7-8 years.
