How does twitter work?

Twitter is good as you can build up a network of people a lot more easily. As I'm desperate to get back in to my sports and fitness, I have 2 physios that I talk with, a sports nutritionalist and another guy who does a lot of working out as part of my network. With that, I can talk to them at any point about any concerns that I have or what to do next.

That is for sports but you can have that for other interests. Not only that, you can find out interesting things that are going on by following the right people and it can be a good heads up for films that are coming out, new trailers, travel updates etc... it's a good site providing that you follow the right people and network.

A-ha, but that's the problem with Twitter - you get all of those pieces of information in one long stream of consciousness

One minute you're reading about delays on the Jubilee Line, the next moment Ekotto says he likes rice n chicken, the next tweet is Stephen Fry saying he is in a taxi tweeps, the next is a reply to a question but you didn't see the question, so it just says "Yes Lionel, 17 tonnes of it, but not after Thursday!" and the next is Lord Sugar saying that ****y ****y is a twerp for supporting Arsenal etc

Just a mess - like having 20 really brick conversations simultaneously, but you only hear half of the conversations!

"No way @Jake17 I can't believe it lolz. You and me both mate. Pwnd #toss"

Twitter has redefined how news breaks. Anyone who thinks it's about sharing your brick (literally) clearly has no idea about it.

Give it a go if you think it's brick. Find your niche and I guarantee you'll find some value.

Personally I tried it and there was nothing in it for me. If it's about news, then I can honestly say there is no aspect of my life where I need news that urgently. I use Facebook to swap photos with distant friends, but only message people directly, no posting on 'walls'. I use Linkedin for business related networking, again all user to user rather anything being public.

However, I know a few individuals who live by Twitter. A couple of people who just use it to message friends as an alternative to texts or BB messenger... and a couple who work in fashion or media jobs who seem to use it as a way to build networks between people in their target industry.
