The signing of Klinsmann all those years ago really showed that no matter how crap and brittle we were generally, we still had that Hollywood pull and sparkle of stardust.
However, when Jurgen left us and Sugar let his bitterness with that get he better of him, we started our decline and have struggled to make up ground on our nearest rivals (both league wise and locally), who have ridden the speculate-to-accumulate wave which FPP is now going crush (imo).
Put it this way, pre-1996 when agents of top foreign players called clubs in the PL, outside of Manchester and Liverpool, to try and get their players into the newly glamorous PL we were almost always the first numbers on their speed-dials.
