Fair point, but the idealism of left wing politics very quickly comes crashing down to earth in times like these.

75% tax on the rich? Fantastic IMO. All the highest skilled, well paid will hop across the channel and pay tax here instead. Ibrahimovic will get a nice shock when his 8.2m salary after tax plummets to 3.6m. I'm sure he'll be happy to stay at PSG.

Furthermore, French businesses will have to compete internationally on an after-tax basis, so for a player in the French league to earn the same as a player in the Premiership, the French club will have to pay a pre tax salary of nearly double.

America has most of those things except history, plus better weather in some states and as mentioned, no French people.

They're not really though are they? The American political spectrum is to the right of that in Europe, the Democrats are closer to the conservatives than to Labour on many issues.

And in terms of spending money the US doesn't have, have a little peek at what Bush junior and Reagan were doing with their country's money and then come back and say it is the Democrats who spend money they don't have.

As for Hollande, he's been in power for the best part of 5 months. Whatever you think of socialism, blaming this on him and the socialists is simply hilarious.

So Hollande's 75% tax rate, a tax rate which as far as I understand hasn't even been implemented yet because the constitutional court struck it down, is the reason why France is bankrupt after he's been president for 6 months? while we're still blaming Labour on this board for an economy they haven't been in control of for 3 years now. Interesting.

I'm not trying to defend labour though.

I am merely pointing out the hypocrisy of those on here with regards to their obsession with Hollande's 5 month reign and a largely symbolic tax which hasn't even been implemented yet but which has apparently brought about the downfall of France and yet labour are blamed 3 years later.

Political blindness and bias.

And I'm not a socialist but the reason such ideologies even exist in the first place is because of statistics like those released by Oxfam a few weeks ago. Disgusting.
