Greatest actor ever (living or dead)

Don't think anyone's mentioned Anthony Hopkins yet? Watch him in both Silence of the Lambs and Remains of the Day, plays two completely different roles just superbly.

Have to be in the mood to watch sub-titles if you know what I mean? and the English voice acting in the "Girl With" series has put me off of watching a dubbed film ever again, it was truly awful!

Another one who doesn't get mentioned alot, mainly due to his death is John Cazale who I think is a brilliant actor. Couldn't really say he is the greatest actor ever though as he was in about 5 films

Excellent choice. Maybe only five films (The Deer Hunter, The Godfather I &II, The Conversation, Dog Day Afternoon, ?) but five great films.

Gene Hackman is always good, even if the movie sucks.
