Gay footballers

I totally agree with Tommy.

Its liek the racism issue - its the fuss and furore around it that makes it prominent and an 'issue'. Why should any of us care if theyre gay? Why is it a big deal, by making it a big deal youre never going to move on from it becoming a 'big deal'. No one comes out and says 'everyone who is straight should confirm so'. If you treat it normal then it becomes the norm subsequently not an issue.

I suspect the vast majority of gay footballers are openly gay within their own teammates - it would be impossible to hide, I would've thought.

Why? Do gays look different?

I'm not sure if you're raising a genuine point or not....

You generally know or have a pretty good idea if a mate, or person you hang around with a lot, is gay, no?

The point is probably emphasized in such a masculine environment, full of heavy nights out, where the emphasis is on getting girls.

If someone is openly gay or is camp it is easy to figure out they are a gay, on the otherhand some guys very outwardly "pass" as being heterosexual if they want to stay in the closet.

Not all footballers are into partying and clubbing despite the general image we get of these young men with lots of cash to spend

i dont understand why people cant see what truth is saying

even though footballers just work together you would think that if they had real friends in the team at some point it would be known to said friends that the guy is gay. Unless the gay guy is working trying to hide it.

basically the public might not know but the people in the football circle might or at lEAST are a hell of a lot more likely to know

I doubt anyone is disputing that close friends of gay footballers may know their friends are gay. It is a question of friendship and trust. I was simply pointing out it is easy to hide if they want to stay in the closet.

In the NBA the first player has just come out, but he hid his sexuality so well that at one stage he was dating a lady and was engaged but simply could not go through with it

Football is a very emotional game. You won't find many racist Spurs fans but there was still enough to sing racist songs at Sol Campbell.

If a gay footballer did something that upset the crowd, it would be very easy for the fans to get caught up in their emotions and sing a song for a laugh.

This is completely unsubstantiated, but coming from their twitter feeds, has anyone else noticed how coupley Ryan Mason and Adam Smith are?

poor guys, blowing their money at an early age.. be lucky if theyre playing at a high enough level in a few years.

True to an extent although Ryan has his head screwed on he's already into property.

To be fair. Mason was/is very very talented. I think he should be ATLEAST playing Championship football, injuries have really plagued him though. If he is to play Prem football, I see it that of the same route Dean Marney has. Where he's been playing Championship football and his team get promoted.

Last season there was an offer from a Dutch side for Ryan before his French nightmare. Sherwood was the string-puller in his loan moves and felt Swindon was the correct one for him due to the system they played. He rejected some championship clubs as he felt they weren't right. I suspect another loan move in 14/15.

I am a big fan of mason, tell him some of us still believe in him and know that in life some people reach maturity at different ages whether in personality or in a professional sphere.

Tell him to keep plugging away and look at what happened with Rickie Lambert. Also he should look at Brighton they need a midfielder player of his ilk after losing the lad to Sunderland. I actually have a very good source at Brighton and know that Hypia is out in Brazil, must be looking for cheap signings, anyway he could do worse then going for Mason I think is excellent.
