Funerals

It's a standard thing for a priest to say at a funeral.

i sure as heck hope not... to me it underlines everything that's wrong with the catholic/christian faith. why should GHod judge someone who 'he' has blighted with an inexplicable disease.

Sorry to hear about your loss mate. I've had to attend many funerals in my lifetime, I wish I could say it gets easier. When you are mourning someone whose life was taken from them too early, I try to focus on the wonderful memories we created together. People pass on but memories and love last forever.

No it's not, it's far from standard. More to the point if a clergyman cannot deal with your lifestyle choices they should not accept the gig, there's always alternatives and clergymen with different perspectives. There's also more than one way to discuss people's lifestyle without being damning them, it sounds as if people on this board have been unlucky in some of the clergy imposed upon them, I've known some excellent, warm, human characters in dog collars. (Sits back and waits for choir boy jokes :) )

The woman priest said something along the same lines at my nans funeral last year. I'm sure it was 'May GHod accept her and forgive her of all her sins'.

In the opening address?

I mean, to come out with it so early during a funeral is just plain wrong in my eyes. If i was the family of the deceased i would have been livid..

He used the term 'wrongdoings' too, which just really struck me.. it was so unnecessary on so many levels. Backwards bunch of deluded fools.

Im sorry for your loss mate, im sort of a catholic in that i was brought up in that faith, i remember every year at school we had to have an audience with the priest. I used to go in and before i had sat down he would say "May GHod forgive you for your sins" i think it is one of the reasons why i do not get on with religions, any of them as they all seem a bit mental to me.

The upside to it all was that seemingly you can do anything sick weird brick and the priest would forgive you at the end of it all. I told this to the priest when i said i did not believe in GHod and he told me i was going to go to hell for not beliving in GHod.

I may well be going to hell but it will be for some seriously fudged up decisions and nasty brick i have done in my life not because i dont belive in GHod.

Remember your friend as she was and dont let the nutters destroy her memory, they hide behind religion because it iss how they get through life, muslim, catholic, C of E is all the same. Me i hide behind my heavy drinking.

That sounds like a line from a prayer rather than a standalone statement so there's a possibility it's been taken out of context, not that I was there so I'm only surmising.
