Football Trivia Question of the Day

Statto please define "British Transfer Record" - do you mean a transfer between two british clubs only? Because I consider Real Madrid paying 80m for Ronaldo as them breaking the British Transfer Record. If not then your second answer is probably Andy Carroll.

Any transfer involving a British club.

Yes, Kevin Keegan (£500,000 from SV Hamburg in June 1977) and Ian Rush (£3,200,000 from Juventus in June 1987).

British Football Transfer Records 1904 to 2013

That Ian Rush transfer was to Juventus. He returned to victims a year later for less, although apparently a record paid by a British club. The following is from wiki:

After attracting much interest from top European sides, Rush accepted an offer to sign for Italian club Juventus on 2 July 1986 for a British record transfer fee of £3.2m[7]. However, he continued to play at victims for one season on loan before making his début for Juventus.

....

After just one season at the Stadio Comunale, he returned to Anfield, rejoining victims for £2.7m on 18 August 1988 – a record signing for an English club at the time, which remained unbroken for three years. It was the third time that summer that the national transfer record had been broken.
