Football Trivia Question of the Day

So Villa have only scored twice as many goals at Villa Park as we have. In fact we have score more in the first half than they have.

It really wasn't so long ago that there was nothing to choose between the two clubs.

Now Spurs are pressing for a Champions League place while Villa are in real danger of losing their Premier League status.

True, but Villa were living beyond their means. Lerner came in and allowed MON to buy a bunch of players on high wages. Their wage bill was substantially higher than ours at one point, even though we always had higher revenue. Then after three 6th places Lerner decided he wasn't going to fund the deficit, MON left in a huff in preseason, and they started selling their best players. I'm not sure if Lerner underestimated the amount he needed to spend, was gambling on CL qualification, or just realised that with City becoming financially doped he could no longer afford it, but for whatever reason he backed off and now they are paying for the gamble.

you don't have to go back too far for a time when they were way ahead of us, i remember dreading trips to villa park

I think what really put Lerner off was the realisation of just how much more he would have to spend to take the next step. These two graphs paint a sad picture. Despite relative success under MON, the football was horrible:

1990 they were genuine title contenders I think, we ended behind them in third . First English side to be allowed back into Europe from league position after heysel. They did nothing, united won the CWC that year and built on their success ever since.

Which four players have each scored two own goals in the same Premier League match?

Which was the only Leeds United v Tottenham Hotspur match not played at Elland Road or White Hart Lane?

Didn't Leeds get a ban from playing at Elland Road in the 70s? We could have played them then at a neutral ground? I can't see it being in Sheffield or Manchester, so Villa Park possibly?
