Right, but often, the player with the sexy name ends up being a lot better than some Championship chancer, and cheers everyone up accordingly.

There is a reason top players are at top clubs, a reason why top clubs don't spend all their days pottering about in the lower leagues looking for a damn bargain, and a reason why the best players play on the biggest stages and (yes) get the biggest headlines.

The big clubs don't scrounge around buying the likes of Grealish and Harvey Barnes straight from the Championship. If they're good, they can buy them from top flight teams after they've proven themselves. Let those other top-flight teams do the testing - buy the finished product. That sustains the cycle of success for them.

As Poch says, acting like a big club means doing that. Again, big signings may fail and Champo randos may succeed - absolutely true, and agreed. And there is a place for special talents, like Dele, like Aarons (who does look good) and so on.

But it's time to stop scrounging for bargains like this. Think big. Strive for better.

Or just buy well and don’t pay more than you need too for brick plays like Fred for £50m or Keita (Jurys still out on him)

Can get players like Maddison or Brooks if you give them a chance

Remember we will struggle to get better first 11 players than we have and in reality we’re adding better quality of depth so that we don’t have to see a step down

I agree. It makes sense, though - Championship footie isn't *bad*, and it's actually the most entertaining league in the entire pyramid (imo). The crowds are usually louder than in the top flight, the football is earthier, there's a bit more authenticity to it all.

And of course, it is still broadcast in English, so it shares the same marketing appeal as the Prem does, to an extent. So naturally, it will have overseas fans, too.

Only problem is that it's only really developed countries that have people who watch the Championship on a regular basis. In developing countries, it's hard enough to find your PL game on TV, never mind a Championship game via the internet. But if the Football League marketed itself better, that could change - after all, it is the 5th or 6th most watched league in Europe, and leveraging that to expand your TV offerings in Asia and Africa should be a no-brainer.

Biggest thing that the Football League have done in recent years is the iFollow. Allows overseas fans to be able to watch all there teams games. Apart from those shown in the local TV market.

Good spot - that's a good start. Next step is to market it more, so people have a reason to pay the official fee and watch the games.
 
For all the sneering about looking at Grealish, Aarons and others of that ilk, there's the unavoidable fact of the home-grown quota which has to inform our purchases and sales. Right now, we need a couple more in who qualify - in the same way that Chelsea threw big money at Drinkwater and Barkley to assist them with compliance.
