So, I have a final interview on Friday and not having been in the job market for around 12 years I'm a little rusty. The recruitment guy says there are no special requirements and I am the front runner for the position. I get the feeling this will follow the same sort of format as the first interview, which was fairly informal, and is just a vetting procedure for the MD.

I just wanted some tips to those tricky questions really, "what are your weaknesses?" "where do you see yourself in 5 years?" etc..

I really want this job as it doubles my salary and pretty much cuts my responsibilities by a third! And I get a E class or 5 Series.
 
I have been to a fair few interviews recently and got the position. Most interviews nowadays have become informal - maybe thats why I have been fairly successful thank GHod.

I do flip interviews around though and turn it on them. Interviews in the past have been misunderstood and its all about you when in my view its all about them. Have some powerful questions especially regarding their financial position and last accounts. What are THEIR plans for the next five years? for example.
 
Prepare for all the "How did you.....", "List x things you've done that were really good/worthy/bad/difficult", etc.

Oh and erections - interviewers love erections. If you can get one just before you walk in, perfect.

DHSF: Exactly what I did in the first interview, its a business development role so I flipped it and in the end he was selling me the job. I thought I was in with a shout when he started saying "you will get..." and "you will be...." etc.

Keep your fingers crossed guys.

I will keep my fingers crossed only if it means we can bounce down Tottenham High Road in your new company car, with Chas n' Dave blasting out, when you get the job.
 
Tell him what you will do in the first 100 days... it will make him think you are organised and a self starter (even if you're not).. how will you make a difference to his business... and ask for an A6... much nicer than either the Merc or the BMW!

Don't ask him for an Audi, he'll think you have really low standards. ;)
 
I think there are some good points here, don't be afraid to throw it back at them a bit as Marky said. If you get the question of "how do you see yourself as a good fit in the business" , answer it honestly and then finish it with "but the fit must go both ways, I have to be sure your business is the best fit for my skills". It doesn't come across as smug or arrogant, more confident.
Also, don't hold back on showing your true personality, if you are a social, funny person, throw in a couple of amusing retorts (don't throw in jokes or bad puns/one-liners, but no harm in showing your true character at this stage).
All in all, be confident in yourself, don't give textbook answers give honest answers. If you can't think of 5 work related weaknesses, give non-work related weaknesses, if you don't know where you want to be in 5 years, tell them where you see yourself in 1 year, what you want to achieve, whether you have met your personal targets as well as your job targets etc etc

good luck, I won't be there for the drive down Tottenham High Road with you unless it is on 13th September, the only Saturday I'm in London this year!
 
Well, done and dusted. Now I have to wait for a few days. It went well although they had two more to interview so keep em crossed folks.
