I think the feeling was we needed a leader in the squad and the hope was that Faz could provide this role.

I still think this is an ingredient we are missing and it would have helped us in the last four games last season.

Roma activate Fazio clause

Federico Fazio is now a Roma player, as it’s reported he made enough appearances to activate the €3.2m transfer from Tottenham Hotspur.

The defender arrived over the summer on loan for €1.2m with an option to buy pending certain “sporting situations.”

According to La Repubblica newspaper, there was a clause automatically activating the permanent transfer if he reached certain targets and Fazio has now made the right number of appearances.

Roma now have to pay Spurs a further €3.2m and can keep Fazio next season as well.

The 29-year-old Argentine has made 22 competitive appearances for Roma, 17 of them in Serie A, scoring one Europa League goal.
