FA Cup Quarterfinal draw

We've got knocked in the semis so many bloody times in recent years, I've decided that I'm not going to get excited until we reach the final if we get there. I've been crushed so many times in the last 20 years after FA cup defeats, each year thinking it was our year.

Should have won the everton and portsmouth ones we were such better teams but we had weak minded players who did not like the big stage. If we do not come up against liverpool or chelsea im convinced we can get to the final whether we can win is another matter.

If we get to the semis, I'm not sure whether I should 'take one for the Club' and stay away.

Three visits to the Wembley to watch Spurs, havent seen us score a bleedin' goal yet...apart from Corluka in a penalty shootout.
Celtic/United/Portsmouth it makes dismal reading

That one still hurts. I really thought, after being reinstated in the Competiton we were going to win it. The replay at Southampton, last minute winner at Anfield.

Everton was bad but Portsmouth was worse ! Atleast Everton was a decent Cup winning team. But it was unforgivable to lose to a shyte team like Portsmouth with all their internal problems that time.

Yeah I agree. Despite the ref having a somewhat dubious game in the Pompey semi final, I never forgave the club for losing. Even when we beat arsenal 3 days later, and Chelsea, 3 days after that.

Even beating City 2wks later, and securing 4th didnt appease me. Couldnt even forget it when we beat Inter, and AC and got to the last 8 of the CL. Even the 3-2 win at The Emirates last year couldnt take the bitterness away.

This season is ok, but its still overshadowed for me, by the Pompey defeat. A win tomorow will not help.

Unforgivable indeed.

You can give 1001 excuses you want. Doesn't matter what we did before or after that but it is unacceptable to lose a Cup semi final, especially to a shyte team.

We're never ever going to know.

But had we beat Portsmouth we may never have beaten Arsenal on the Wednesday night and got CL football.

Also it's quite, possible defeat in that NLD could have handed Arsenal a massive boost and they could have gone on to win the title that year, because our win almsot certainly ended their challenge that night.

A win in the semi...or the way the season panned out. I know which I would take it offered it again. Yes, the semi-final hurt, but I still wouldnt swap it for the 2 derby wins and that night at Eastlands

There is a difference between unacceptable, and unforgivable.
I also dont think its unacceptable to lose a game, especially a cup game, to a lesser team.

Thats football. If you dont understand that, then its pointless following the game.

And actually it does matter, alot, what we did after that game. The knives were out, we had a tough run in, and people were talking about our season being over within 5 days.

It mattered that we bounced back. The fact we went onto greater things, meant the Pompey game became nothing more than a disapointment, as opposed to a catalyst for a monumental collapse.

Such is the roller-coaster life of supporting Spurs. Driving down to Wembley that Sunday I just didnt feel we were going to win, dont ask me why, it just didnt feel like it was going to be our day, but..bizarrely despite our previous record against them driving down the M1 on the Wednesday I really believed we were going to beat Arsenal, which just didnt make sense bearing in mind how long it had been since the last NLD win.

Then, driving back down again on the Saturday, I remember we had the City-United game on and when Scholes scored in the last minute I just knew we were destined to beat Chelsea

Exactly. How many times in the past few seasons have we seen Arsenal (as an example picked totally at random ;) ) suffer a defeat in one competition which derails them and within a few weeks they're out of everything?

We didn't crumble like that, we put a horrible defeat behind us and bounced back in the best way possible. It's a clich?®, but it's often the way you bounce back from a defeat that's more important than the defeat itself. Our reaction to that semi-final defeat showed we had character, fight, determination and balls.

wow

how about that for a confession?

Cooper swoops to the "Self appointed Best Spurs fan in the World award - EVVAH!"

holds it aloft and does a lap of honour

Convicted by his own words...........

GHod's sake, for all their issues, Pompey were still a premier league team. Hardly unforgivable to lose to a premier league team in a one off game.

Of course it is
how could the team posibly let me down by failing to live up to my expectations?
