Take the next best teams from those leauges that have 3 or four teams in the champions league. So that would be England, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, 5 teams and then take the next best three who partake in a preseason knockout of 16 teams where two finalists play and winner of 3rd place gets in.

Portugal are ranked 5th with France 6th. For this year that would have given:
Spurs, Valencia, Freiburg, Fiorentina, Braga and 3 other non-CL teams.
 
Europa League quarter-final results:
Benfica 2-0 AZ Alkmaar (Agg 3-0)
Juventus 2-1 Lyon (Agg 3-1)
Sevilla 4-1 Porto (Agg 4-2)
Valencia 5-0 Basel aet (Agg 5-3)

Basel's elimination, after winning the 1st leg 3-0, means they stay in 20th position in the UEFA rankings with Tottenham in 19th. That will be our final position - which will be used for next season's seedings ... if we are in a UEFA competition.

Benfica look tight at the back, Juve have their work cut out for them at home. Great game, apart from some of the theatrics as usual.
