Win our home games against each of those opponents, we'll field stronger teams to do so. Then send a patched up side away from home, looking to get as many points as we can. If we win the home games then we'll likely qualify for the next stage.

It's about tv schedules and teams from the same nations. A-F has one slot, G-L has the other.

Maybe we should just get a base in Northern Greece or something, send some of our second string players there for a couple of months and only fly them back to England in case of emergencies ;)

This is a tournament ruined by the group stage. Do away with the group stage and let it throw up plenty of good knock-out games from the off.

The europa league group stages really are crap aren't they. Rubbish teams you have never heard of, in far away places. It only gets interesting in the the knockout rounds. They they ruin it by dropping in the Champions league dropouts.

Seriously though. Has there ever been any thing brought up about stopping that? What happens if for example Benfica drop into the Europa League again. Win it. And Qualify through their league position. Does the runner up get the Champions league spot?

Also if we were to win it but finish outside the top 4. Do we get 5 teams in the Champions league?
