Why are the worlds best players still so brick at free kicks? There's almost zero anticipation of anything coming from them anymore. I feel like I haven't seen a goal from a free kick in forever

The reason Peps Barcelona was so effective is because he has some of the worlds best players who not only had the technique but also moved the ball very quickly. Nowadays the worlds best seem to want to do a little too much with it when a quick pass would be much more effective.

I guess thats the modern footballer who would prefer more likes on insta for a nutmeg then playing quick passing football and more goals and assists.

Sterling is the worst at that. Quick build up, gets the ball, stops the ball and stands there with that 'I might go this way, I might go that way swagger' only for the defender to have time to close him down and he has to pass the ball backwards, killing the pace of the attack!
He annoys me so much. Its like pass, pass, gets to Sterling, traps the ball and stands it up. Just get the ball and go man, why wait!?

Edit: Watching France play the ball early to Mbappe and how different he is. Gets it and first instinct is to try and beat the defender, when it comes off he blows everything wide open, so exciting to watch. I hope we don't have to play France, they might tear us apart at the back
